If you’ve no experience of buying tickets at Old Trafford, then hopefully this guide will clear up several of the frequently asked questions about where to obtain a ticket, legally and safely.
I know there are tickets like viagogo and places like that, but I wouldn’t recommend them. You’re going to pay well over the odds and I’ve no idea how they manage to deliver the tickets. The pretty much the only way to guarantee what you want is via the official site. Might be a bit boring, but it’s the truth. It’s the most trustworthy place to sort yourself out. There’s ticket exchanges on twitter and on Facebook in various groups, but they’re simply a market place for people and you don’t know if the person on the other end is going to deliver.
Buying from the Official Manchester United Website
- You need to be an official Manchester United member to purchase a ticket. An official membership can be sought using this link. Prices are from £32.00 for Adults and £22.00 for children. You will not be able to buy ANY tickets on the official website without a valid membership, so allow yourself time and purchase your membership early.
- United is an extremely popular football club, so tickets from all big sides, such as City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc will be sold out instantly as will most Saturday games. The best option for tickets on the official website are midweek games, such as Champions League or Europa group stage and League Cup matches. Latter stage knock out games will sell out very quick, too.
- To find out what games are available, use this link
- Once you find a game with availability, click on the ‘Buy Tickets’ button (if it says ‘find tickets’ they either aren’t available yet or have sold out) and you’ll be presented with the following screen;
- Areas in red have no availability, areas in yellow have very limited availability, typically single seats on their own and green areas have seats available, normally a pair together or more.
- Click on the area of the ground with availability and you’re presented with the following screen;
- The green dots represent available seats, click on as many as you need and they’ll be added to the ‘selected seats’ section at the bottom of your screen. If you are happy select ‘Add to Basket’ and you’ll be taken to a payment confirmation screen.
- You need to assign the tickets to a membership at this stage, so you cannot buy more than one ticket on a membership number, you need to have a valid membership for each ticket that you wish to buy. Once you’ve assigned and paid you’ll receive a confirmation email which tells you that your ticket has been activated on your membership card, so don’t forget to bring the card when you come as that will be how you gain entry to the stadium. There are no paper tickets.
Ticket Pricing
- Ticket prices have quite a large spread and if there was full availability, something to suit every budget, but availability will dictate the prices of what is left.
- Face value ticket prices for standard seating ranges from £31-53. Executive prices are typically £149-499 +VAT, dependent on availability and which particular lounge the tickets are in.
- There are no categories for games at Manchester United.
Alternative Ticket Options
- Hospitality tickets are generally available for most games, due to the cost involved. Prices for the hospitality tickets are dearer for Arsenal/Liverpool/City than some of the smaller teams. The range is from £149-499(+VAT) and what that entails can vary greatly.
- Check out the hospitality website here or contact the sales line on 0161 820 7926 or hospitality@manutd.co.uk for more information and to purchase.
- Thomas Cook are an official matchday partner of Manchester United and they offer matchday packages. See here for what they have available. Here you are able to buy a ticket and a hotel room for one price. Prices typically start at around £129.00.
- Although not technically a ‘legal’ way to obtain tickets, there is a bit of a community online where you can find regular match goers unable to attend with spare tickets and these are offered only at face value. Ones I would recommend are @MUFCsparesHome & @MUFC_tickets on twitter. Drop them a tweet and you’ll probably get told how likely you are to get a ticket for a particular game.
Away Tickets / Cup Finals
- Forget it. Don’t even ask.
