So, it's Playstation Now but not terrible. Sounds like a pretty good service, though it always depends on what games they have available.

Yeah, this is definitely Microsoft's answer to PS Now. They basically call out PS Now with this line:

That means continuous, full-fidelity gameplay without having to worry about streaming, bandwidth or connectivity issues.

I have to agree that this system sounds way better. PS Now has more games (450+), so it still has that leg up, but the Xbox Game Pass will surely grow. In addition it seems to include both Xbox One and Xbox 360 games. PS Now is currently just PS3 games.

If I had an Xbox One I could see myself subscribing on and off if games I want to play are on the service. $10 for basically a one month rental sounds pretty good. I can beat most games in a month.

edit: Not to mention PS Now is $20 a month (damn, I didn't know it was that much!) or $45 for 3 months.

And if it's true to other MSFT digital subscriptions you should be able to find prepaid cards that are heavily discounted.

Live is supposed to be $60/year. It is easy to find codes for $35 (or less) if you're patient. Even if you find it for only 25% off, $90/year for this service sounds like a fantastic deal.

Well, that was true for Xbox music in the beginning, but for years now u can't find it discounted. Hopefully this will have discounted cards.

Groove is the new service. It gets discounted a lot. Hell they just offered me 4 months free if I bought a month just to get me back on the service.

That's true, but PS Now also briefly went on sale for $100 a year ($8.33 a month), so if we go by the best absolute pricing than it's cheaper for PS Now as well.

edit: My point is not that PS Now is cheaper than Game Pass or how it can be cheaper. It just seems fair to mention that Now can be had for cheaper than base price as well if we're comparing the price of each service.

That's not really what /u/IHaveVariedInterests is saying - they're saying that it's not that there's a lowest price that routinely beats PSNow, it's that based on the historic prices of Live and Access, prepaid cards are often much lower than retail price. If that's true, the "absolute" best price will still be the XBox subscriptions, and the every day price would again be the XBox subscriptions.

Yes.

Short version: MSFT digital subs can be found dirt cheap if you look not even that hard.

Can you not find Playstation cards for cheap if you look hard enough as well? I'm just trying to say, yeah, there will be cheaper price points that people can find, but comparing a normal price versus a non-normal price isn't fair.

I believe its much more common to find Xbox Live cards on sale than it is for Playstation Plus. I've haven't paid "full price" for Xbox Live in probably 8+ years.

They're not comparing normal price vs not-normal price. Normal vs normal, XBox Game Pass is cheaper. Then, anecdotally, there's a history of XBox Live and other service passes (Groove, for example) that are routinely below retail price, and they're fairly easy to find. There's no "look hard enough" about it, and they make XBox services even cheaper.

There may be the same for Sony - but I haven't had a Sony subscription since I got my XBox One to replace my PS3. It was not easy to find discounted prepaids back then.

Hard enough may not have been the right words. My point is most people don't go out of their way for these things. But when they do their are ways to make it cheaper for both sides. I did a quick search and I managed to find Xbox Gold for $46 and PS Plus for $50. Deals for both are out there, though it does seem that Xbox cards currently go for less.

Okay, that's not really the point though. The point is saying "absolute lowest" for PSNow and claiming that makes it cheaper isn't true, probably won't be true when Game Pass has prepaids, and is misleading at best.

Wait, are you saying that I said PS Now is cheaper than this Game Pass thing? If so, that's not what I said or meant. I said/meant you could get Now for cheaper than its base price.

If you're saying it's not true that PS Now can be cheaper (than it's base price) when it clearly goes on sale sometimes than I don't know what to say to that.

If I had an Xbox One I could see myself subscribing on and off if games I want to play are on the service. $10 for basically a one month rental sounds pretty good. I can beat most games in a month.

This is what I do with EA Access from time to time. $5 for a month to play whatever game you want is an amazing deal. So just $10 for an even bigger library to choose from has me very excited.

PS Now has another option that for some reason they only activate like a couple of weeks a year, $100 for the whole year. At this price I was going to subscribe until I realized I missed the offer by a week.

I think it sounds like a great service and yet another solid feature for the Xbone. Myself though, I like to own my games. No doubt there are many who will find this to be a good deal though, nice to see Halo 5 will be available for it.

only thing to worry about now is just the performance of said title when ran natively

I tried Playstation Now (7 day trial) and loved it, but not for the price... like $20/month (I missed a 1 year-$99 promotion that should be the actual price). I'm hoping this new competition option from Microsoft will push Sony to make Playstation Now better and/or cheaper.

It's completely NOT Playstation Now. PlayStation Now is a live game stream so its gameplay will be affected by network latency. This is download to your harddrive and play. It's more like EA Access, except it has non EA games.

PlayStation now is highly dependent on your location relative to the servers.

I live in Texas and it works perfectly. I lived in Utah and it worked perfectly. I can even play fighting games just fine.

It might work perfectly for some, but you'd have to admit that having the game downloaded would work better for everybody. Plus, you can get both 360 and Xbox One games with this service.

Maybe I was wrong to say Playstation Now was/is terrible, but as far as I can tell this is much better.

They both have their benefits.

I like that I can just open up PS Now and start any game right from the app without waiting for a lengthy download.

I live near Atlanta (but with fiber) and tried the 7 day trial and it rocked, felt like it was playing locally. But the price is ridiculous.

I don't think the price is bad for what you get.

$20/month? Way too much for my wallet.
They had a $99/year option that I was going to subscribe for, but I missed the sale. That should be a permanent option IMHO.

$20/month for over 400 games is a good price. It's cheaper than a gamely subscription which is the only really comparable thing we had until now and you can only play two games at a time with that. .

Not cheaper, I use gamefly and it's only $17/month and access to almost all games for all platforms. You do have the issue of turnaround times though, so in a month I get to play an average of 2.5 games, but they're new (just returned FF XV middle of last week, should be getting Tales of Berseria today).
It's different services though, one is for games I actually want to play, the other one is for games I can play to pass the time or am curious about but wouldn't bother buying.

Gamefly's $23 for the two game option.

I can't imagine being stuck with one at a time. They took so long to deliver a new game when I had the trial that I spent half of it just waiting for one to arrive.

It sounds neat. But I think it also makes the service more confusing. There's now subscriptions to Xbox Live and Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Live gives you games, Xbox Game Pass gives you games. Then there's EA Access, another subscription that gives you games.

Does this service affect which games are on Games with Gold and vice versa?

Why not just add this as a feature for XBL and get rid of Games with Gold as we know it?

That would be immediately spun by Sony as taking away a benefit to make people pay a separate subscription for another service.

So just update Games with Gold to be like this service? Why add another similar service for a separate subscription?

Probably to make it less confusing and easier to advertise. Also, some people don't want to pay for Live Gold if they don't play multiplayer games; so that basically doubles the cost for those people with the only benefit being Games with Gold.

Because this is a completely different service to Games with Gold, and doesn't require Gold to take advantage of.

Games with Gold gives you 2-3 free games (for life) each month for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Xbox Game Pass gives you access to a library of games as long as you have a subscription.

They are two very different models, and the Game Pass doesn't require Gold, and Gold doesn't require the Game Pass. They are independent but benefit each other.

If they added Game Pass to Gold, the price of Gold would have to increase to allow for this new service, and gamers would be unhappy that they would be losing their free games that they get to keep even if they cancel Gold down the line. It would be a big step backwards for gamers and cost more money.

A service like this ain't exactly cheap and I absolutely would not expect it to be bundled in with the current XBL pricing.

[–]A_Wild_OP_Appears [スコア非表示]  (10子コメント)

Netflix for gaming, available on Xbox One and Windows 10 for 9.99 a month, well done MS. So obviously EA Access was successful enough for Microsoft to also get involved then.

[–]Moarliek [

And you don't have to stream the game, you can download them right to your system. Sounds great.

It would be much better if both were options.

Why? It is always better to download than stream when possible.

Some people don't have a fast enough connection to stream, so downloading would be a better option.

I dont see anywhere where it says that it would be on PC.

[–]A_Wild_OP_Appears [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

It's in the FAQS "Xbox Game Pass will only be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 devices. While some Xbox 360 backwards compatible games will be included in Xbox Game Pass, those titles will not be available on the Xbox 360 console via your subscription."

first paragraph:

add to a robust and diverse portfolio of games across Xbox One and Windows 10.

Xbox as a discrete platform is ceasing to exist. Microsoft is moving towards a future where Xbox and Gaming for Windows (via Windows 10) are two sides of the same coin, one via an always evolving console (with yearly or bi-yearly incremental hardware updates instead of a new platform every 7 years), and the other for people with gaming PCs. People were mixed on this comment I wrote a couple days ago but this announcement is still further proof of what I'm claiming.

I cant access the site at the moment. Is there a list of games or anything? Or a launch date?

From the FAQ's on the actual game pass website:

Xbox Game Pass will only be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 devices. While some Xbox 360 backwards compatible games will be included in Xbox Game Pass, those titles will not be available on the Xbox 360 console via your subscription.

Definitely sounds like games in the Xbox Game Pass will be available on Windows?!

This is most likely talking about Xbox Play Anywhere?

Probably going forward, i don't see any play anywhere titles on that list yet. Maybe halo 5 will get a full PC release?

Why? What's so hard to believe about them wanting to monetize the old 360 games? If BC emulator runs on Xbox version of windows 10, why is it so hard to believe it can't easily run on Xbox App in full Windows 10?

Oh no it can. They already know it can they also had it streaming to windows phones and tablets. Even had made a browser version of the app.

Why run natively on PCs with varying capabilities when they can run it on the Xbox One and stream to PC like how the Steam Link works, but in reverse? Sure, for those of us whose systems beat the Xbox One (I think mine does on all counts, but I'm not sure and IDGAF really), it would be nice to push the game further, but the game might not be unlocked for greater framerates like a PC release would be.

Otherwise we're talking about emulation, which an Xbox One can do, but for Xbox 360 games to work on a PC, the PC has to emulate the Xbox One's unique (ish?) tri-core PowerPC architecture. (I love explaining to people how the Xbox 360 is, more or less, a Mac. Especially Apple haters. And how it has no RAM — it has 512MB of GDDR3 the CPU can use for RAM, but it's graphics memory and not your bog standard DDR3.) Again, if your PC can outclass an XB1, you can run the emulator better than an XB1, I'm just not sure Microsoft wants it out in the wild. But hey, who knows. The dream has been console games of either platform on PC for years, and I'm definitely not trying to shit on that dream. I just don't think it's any more likely with this announcement.

The fact that you can download your games instead of streaming them. That's huge. If anything it might force Sony to change there poilcy for PS Now.

You have my attention Microsoft.

Edit: I'm starting to think losing to Sony in the early part of this gen is the best thing to happen to Microsoft. So many pro consumer things have come from having to play 2nd fiddle. This, backwards compatibility and play anywhere are all great moves. But they are losing the "exclusives" war.

Sony would have to develop backwards compatibility like Microsoft did for that to work.

That's true. Let's hope this lights a fire under there ass to get it done.

Edit: I agree that it would be challenging to impossible to get PS3 backwards compatibility on the PS4. But 2 things.

  1. They are going to try.

  2. If Sony can't do it they can respond in other ways. Like dropping the price of PS Now.

The biggest hurdle is the Cell processor on the PS3.

Microsoft's solution (basically running a 360 emulator on the Xbox One) is unlikely to work for Sony and the PS3.

Get what done? That's impossible without making a completely new PS4.

Sony is nowhere near as good as MSFT at software development. If it happens, I'd be shocked.

The interesting part to me is

"Available on Windows"

Xbox 360 games on Windows 10 maybe?

That would be pretty nuts. My guess is the service is mainly for Xbox, but Play Anywhere titles will also allow you to play on Windows 10.

My guess is the service is mainly for Xbox,

Any 360 games that have beem modified for XBox One "backwards compatibility" should work fine on Windows 10. The licensing requirements could be convoluted, though.

And for that low price, it's a must buy for me. If it comes to windows 10 it would be a nice bonus as I'm trying to game on PC but don't have a good one yet.

It's likely meaning their Play Anywhere titles which allow you to play the game both on Xbox and Windows.

Where do you see "Available on Windows"?

The only thing I see mentioning Windows 10 is "we continue to make platform improvements to connect the growing community of players on Xbox Live and add to a robust and diverse portfolio of games across Xbox One and Windows 10". They never mention Windows 10 again, so I'm assuming this is Xbox One only.

Its in the last question of the FAQ.

Xbox Game Pass will only be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 devices. While some Xbox 360 backwards compatible games will be included in Xbox Game Pass, those titles will not be available on the Xbox 360 console via your subscription.

I don't know why this shocks people. MS is making a huge push to unify the platforms. If the 360 emulator can run on the windows 10 version in the Xbox, they can easily get it to run through the Xbox App.

They have my attention as this becomes a legitimate way to monetize their Xbox App without charging for multiplayer and beyond just selling more copies of Windows 10 by getting gamers to upgrade finally.

I don't know why this shocks people. MS is making a huge push to unify the platforms.

Presumably because Microsoft has been saying that they would be doing stuff with PC for years, and yet every time that turned out to either be false or absolutely awful. In terms of consumer trust they just twisted the knife in deeper and deeper, and then they would say the same thing next year and people would fall for it again.

People are shocked because it seems like they're not lying this time. Which is good. I like that.

Oh, that's super neat. There are some really good 360 titles that haven't been available on PC before

That would mean RDR for PC, for example. Doubtful!

first paragraph:

add to a robust and diverse portfolio of games across Xbox One and Windows 10.

I think they just refer to Play Anywhere games, an official 360 emulator would get a lot more fanfare.

If I had to guess I bet that's only for Play Anywhere titles.

Oh I'd definitely pay for that functionality! Let us hope this is the case.

Probably just games that are play anywhere like gears of war ultimate

I'm pretty confident from that text that it's only for Xbox One.

But I am still hopeful that they will make all their 360 games compatible on Windows 10 some day, then a service like this could be possible I guess.

Interesting idea that I would've hopped on when I first bought the console, but I already own so many games digitally on Xbox that I doubt the library will make it worthwhile for me.

Same here, I have like over 200 games on my xbox one but this is still a pretty fucking cool service.

I think its worth while for me, im a student and dont get too much time to play and will often miss the chance to play games as im busy with work or other pirorities. When i go home for summer for like 2-3 months. I can pay $30(or whatever the uk equivelent will be) and catch up on games i've missed out on for the past few years.

Value for some does not mean bad value.

I buy plenty of new movies on Amazon before they come to Netflix. I don't hate on Netflix because they provide value for people more patient than me.

Wow the Netflix of gaming is finally here, yet you don't have to deal with latency due to local downloads. At $10 a month with discounts to purchase a permanent copy, this seems like a pretty good deal. Kind of like EA access but with a larger catalog.

The games announced so far look good also. As seen in pictures :

X1 :

Halo 5: Guardians

Payday 2

NBA 2K16

LEGO Batman

Mad Max

Saints Row 4

Gears of War ultimate edition

Terraria

Mega Man Legacy Collection

360 :

Fable 3

Soul Calibur 2

Tekken Tag Tournament 2

It's arrived more than a few times now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameTap is just one more example.

Finally? The Netflix of gaming was here in 1994.

Do you mean Sega Channel? I loved Sega Channel.

My best friend and I would always have a sleepover on the final day of the month so we could stay up all night and play the new games as the service rolled over into the next month. Good times.

Later Onlive and Gaikai did it in 2010 but too ahead of their time when most people were lucky if they had anything faster than a 10mbps connection. Gamefly has game streaming (I think), and then you have Playstation Now that works pretty well (obviously only for Playstation games) but it's too expensive.

Later Onlive and Gaikai did it in 2010 but too ahead of their time

I wouldn't go that far.

Gaikai was bought out by Sony, their tech is what powers Playstation Now.

Onlive was run by a violent idiot who would throw literal honest to god tantrums if he found out that a publisher had talked to Gaikai. Strangely enough, this didn't endear Onlive to publishers, so there was a severe shortage of new titles on the service. No games -> no customers -> no money to keep running.

[–]Kenaf [

I loved the Sega Channel too, but as a small child that red "Attention!" screen whenever it failed to download something scared me. :(

I wouldn't consider that at all. It wasn't even feasible back then.

Sega Channel, around 50 games available at any time, some of the games change each month.

Apparently no one remembers that Netflix wasn't always a streaming service...

Not quite. It's still too expensive when taking into account Xbox Live. $180.00 a year total is still pretty steep to play a catalog of old games. To be like Netflix they'd have to add in all exclusives (including new ones on release day) and make a more competitive price that includes both Xbox Live and this streaming service. If they could figure that all out then maybe it would take off.

For those at work:

At Xbox, we put gamers at the center of everything we do and remain committed to giving you the freedom to play the games you want, with the friends you want, on the devices you want. This year is shaping up to be an exciting one for gamers. As we prepare to launch Project Scorpio this holiday, bringing the most powerful console ever made to the Xbox One family of devices, we continue to make platform improvements to connect the growing community of players on Xbox Live and add to a robust and diverse portfolio of games across Xbox One and Windows 10.

Today, we’re continuing our commitment to give you more options to diversify and expand your library of games with Xbox Game Pass, a new gaming subscription service coming later this spring. Xbox Game Pass gives you unlimited access to over 100 Xbox One and backward compatible Xbox 360 games – all for $9.99 per month.

With great games from top industry publishers such as 2K, 505 Games, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, Capcom, Codemasters, Deep Silver, Focus Home Interactive, SEGA, SNK CORPORATION, THQ Nordic GmbH, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft Studios, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and you will always find something exciting to play across a variety of genres. Some of the fan-favorite titles coming to Xbox Game Pass when it launches to the broader Xbox community later this spring include Halo 5: Guardians, Payday 2, NBA 2K16 and SoulCalibur II.

One of the best things about Xbox Game Pass is that you can discover and download the full titles directly on your Xbox One. That means continuous, full-fidelity gameplay without having to worry about streaming, bandwidth or connectivity issues. In addition, all Xbox One games in the catalog – and related add-ons – will be available to purchase at an exclusive discount for Xbox Game Pass members, so you can make the games you love part of your permanent library to play whenever you want. Every month new games will cycle into the subscription with some cycling out, giving you a constantly-updating library of games. Xbox Game Pass is your ticket to endless play.

It’s important to us that Xbox Game Pass provides an enjoyable and seamless experience. Before the program rolls out to the broader community later this spring, we’ll be testing Xbox Game Pass with select members of the Xbox Insider Program in the Alpha Preview ring starting today with a very limited number of titles. The titles that are available in Preview are just a small glimpse at the expansive catalog of games that will be available when Xbox Game Pass launches this spring. Xbox Live Gold members will also be receiving exclusive access to Xbox Game Pass prior to the program launching to the broader community. We’ll have more details on timing closer to launch.

We hope you enjoy Xbox Game Pass and all that it has to offer. We’re looking forward to hearing the feedback from the gamers in the Xbox Insider Program and then from the rest of the Xbox community when it’s broadly available later this spring. Your feedback will make this program better for all gamers.

Thank you for your continued passion and support of Xbox.

Best part is actually downloading the games instead of using unreliable streaming like PS Now. Xbox One backwards compabilitity was a really consumer friendly advancement and I'm glad to see that kind of thinking continue. Even if it's just because they're behind Sony in sales, it's nice to see this side of Microsoft.

Been waiting for something like this. I know EA Access is a great deal, but they don't have that many games I think I'd play. Hopefully this has a great selection.

EA Access is fantastic if you play sports games. I used to only buy Madden and FIFA like every 5 years or so. So if you don't mind waiting (or care about Ultimate Team) it's awesome.

Yeah it seems like a awesome service. Only sports game I play is 2K though, I'd probably play FIFA if I had a subscription though.

It's good value if you play even 2 games in the catalog a year, I find. I got so much out of NHL 15/16, Titanfall, and a handful of others.

Obviously this is cool as shit and seems to trump PS Now in every way except title selection at launch (TBD I guess).

They don't mention how/if this might affect the current Games with Gold platform. Hopefully nothing changes. GWG seems to have been pinging pretty good lately (at least for stuff I want to play. YMMV of course).

Woo more game to not finish because i cant even finish what i have! Exciting!

On a serious note, this is actually looking like a decent deal, for once.

The value of this all depends on the library. EA Access has consistently been a fantastic value with pretty great games, but that's also only 30 dollars a year as opposed to this service, which is 120 dollars a year. If Microsoft can make this worth it and include games I didn't already play 2 years ago, this could be a revolutionary service. If not, it'll be a more download intensive Playstation Now.

If not, it'll be a more download intensive Playstation Now.

Downloading the games on my console instead of streaming them already makes this service way better for me than PSNow could ever be.

I never said it was necessarily a bad thing. It's just that it'd be paying for old games like PS Now, but instead of streaming, you're downloading them.

EA Access is 60$ if you buy it a month at a time. I'd be shocked if this didn't offer an annual membership discount.

For all we know, $10/mo is the annual membership discount.

Ur right its probably 200000$ for 1 month and Microsoft steals ur kidneys.

I'd be shocked if this didn't offer an annual membership discount.

I imagine you sitting in your pajamas, slumped on your couch, with your mouth hanging open, controller slipped out of your hands, and on the screen in front of you is the news "To our valued customers: Sorry, but we currently have no plans for a yearly subscription package."

I think this is really nice for casual gamers, or people who just got an xbox one. Many casual gamers have trouble spending $20-60 on a game they're not sure they will like, and $120 over the course of a year for access to over 100 games is a lot easier to swallow than $40 every time you want a new game. Even as someone who keeps up with all the new releases and has a good knowledge of what's out there, I have a hard time deciding

This service will likely never have new games on it. Video games are far more costly than music or movies so it makes no sense to charge just $10 a month for this. With Game Pass you have access to more than just EA's lineup. I wouldn't be surprised to see this price raised to $20 a month.

The value of this all depends on the library.

Yeah, and it isn't looking too hot right now. The fact that they're using Payday 2 as an example game, when that had a notoriously bad console port is worrying.

I can't imagine what my 11 year old self's reaction to something like this would. Definitely getting in on this. Hopefully it'll give PS Now an idea or two as well, streaming games just isn't reliable enough for too many people.

Every month new games will cycle into the subscription with some cycling out

So once a game's cycled out, you can't play any more?

[–]A_Wild_OP_Appears [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Yep, probably due to licensing, it's the same thing all subscription services do

I'm gonna assume metrics will be involved to see what games aren't even being played to switch them with ones that will.

Good question. Since you're downloading and not streaming maybe you still have access?

You'll still have the game files on the hdd but no license to play them, either buy a license or wait for it to maybe cycle back in.

Do you need Xbox Live Gold to use it? (to play online)

no, but you will still need it to be able to play online.

I don't understand how exactly does it work on Xbox One. I thought Live Gold was mandatory to play online?

bad wording, fixed it for you.

Oh, so it's a subscription on top of another subscription then.

Only if you wanna play online. (Which I think you know, just completing the thread here)

Thanks. I meant online multiplayer, sorry, forgot to mention that.

Ah, ok. You'll still need gold for online multiplayer.

[–]nostalgic_dragon [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Not having to stream and being able to play offline is awesome. I have a huge backlog though and am not sure this is for me. Still awesome.

This is how it should be done. Streaming tech is no where near good enough for most people, the input lag, video compression, etc. This is a much better way to handle a subscription to a game library.

As a PS4 owner I can only hope PSNow changes to be more like this. I don't have amazing Internet and fame streaming doesn't work for me yet, so downloading the game locally is a dream

Hopefully this becomes successfull and other companies follow suit. This is in my opinion a great way to battle piracy.

Say i really wanted to play 3 games on that list. I could go through the trouble and look for them online, look for a torrent, risk getting caught, and go through all the tedious steps to get it to run, OR i could just spend 10 dollars and can download them directly.

The way to combat piracy is not to fight it with DRM, but to compete with it. Make downloading games easy, affordable and convenient.

Piracy is a non issue on consoles. The closest thing to piracy is game rental stores, key resellers and used games, but those aren't even close.

This is a very smart idea. With the way the gaming market is broad today, it's very hard to get a chance of playing most games. You really gotta pick and choose what games to give a chance, and often be disapointed with your picks. With a service like this, everything changes. Specialy with the cycling in, cycling out thing. It's just that more effective to hook players to buy your game it cycles out.

The industry has been heading this way for a while. I honestly thought this transition would happen sooner after the success of EA access.

I think this is really cool, especially for Parents. Rather than dropping £40 a pop on a brand new Lego game while looking wistfully at that Gears of War remaster, they can subscribe to this program and have something both for you and your children to play.

I think that the distance this goes in increasing financial accessibility to games is just as important as the notion of "Netflix for Gaming".

The first 23 games got revealed:

A Kingdom for Keflings, Banjo-Kazooie, Comic Jumper, Dark Void, Defense Grid 2, Gears of War Judgement, Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Halo: Spartan Assault, Hexic 2, Jetpac Refuelled, Kameo, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, Monday Night Combat, Ms. Splosion Man, OF: Dragon Rising, Perfect Dark Zero, Sacred 3, Sam & Max Beyond Time, Sunset Overdrive, The Maw, Viva Pinata, Halo 5, Saints Row 4, Mad Max, NBA 2K16, Lego Batman, Mega Man Collection, Terraria, Payday 2, Fable 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Super excited for more people to play Sunset Overdrive.

Some good news from Mike Ybarra for Alpha Ring testers as apparently it's free whilst in Alpha Ring

"@XboxQwik Two questions, firstly, will there be something like a 30 day free trial? Secondly, will it be free during testing for Alpha Ring?

@Arc378 Not sure on first question, yes on second (free in alpha)."

Wow depending on the games, this seems good.

I don't like the cycling out part though. Really, if you play a game halfway and it cycles out you are just fucked?

You're not fucked; you can choose to buy the game and keep playing or decide that it's not worth the money to finish it. Unless it's a licensed game situation where the rights expired and the game disappears from the store.

It's just like Netflix. Up to the user to be aware of what's cycling and when.

Anything for PC players?

Probably just the Windows 10 cross buy titles, but even still, on PC you'd have to compete with the value of Steam sales. Steam itself has very little incentive to offer a rival "Netflix of gaming" service when their sales often leave you paying less than $10 per month on average for the specific games you actually want to play. That's not to say there aren't advantages to a no-questions-asked service where you can try a game and chuck it if you don't like it, but still, you'd have to compete with that value.

Xbox Game Pass will only be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 devices. While some Xbox 360 backwards compatible games will be included in Xbox Game Pass, those titles will not be available on the Xbox 360 console via your subscription.

Did you read the article?

The service is excellent for the price. I dont think anyone can dispute that. Really good stuff. My concerns of course are the selection on hand. They rotate out, and based on the tepid rollout of quality BC games, I'm hesitant about this. You wont see new games of course, just games that have sunset and are seeing decreased retail sales.

My other main concern is that this doesnt really solve the Xbox's biggest problem. Give me all the games you want for a low price, but if none of them or Horizon, R&C, Uncharted 4, etc level of quality, why bother?

Regardless, for a more casual audience, you could buy an Xbox One S for $250 and for $10 a month play quality, older titles. Not bad at all. Good for them for moving the chains.

This is the future of gaming. I'd be surprised if Nintendo and Sony didn't have a similar service on their platforms in the next 5 years.

There are a few things that people need to realize though.

Prices will go up. Microsoft is insane to only charge $10 for this. I wouldn't be surprised to see this service run for upwards of $25 a month. Unlimited access to download select AAA to play lag free. I'd expect Sony and Nintendo to launch theirs at no less than $20 a month.

New games will not be available on this service. The platforms will need to license the games from the developer. Believe it or not licensing brand new AAA games costs a lot more than year old games. I'd be surprised to see any AAA third party game newer than a year. First party games may be from between 6 months to a year old. Only way new games show up would be through a premium service that costs at least $40 a month.

Prices probably won't go up.

The general concept behind subscription services like this and EA Access is that they effectively monetize games that are already past their sales shelf-life. Which is why most of the games are at least a year old and have already dropped into super low current sales

The thing is if they want to license more games they will need more cash flow. I'm sure they have the numbers behind the scenes but I don't see more than 3 million paying user in the first year.

[–]Aldeanue [

So, if you can download those games, and they´ll have a discount if you want to purchase them while you´re paying for the Game Pass...

Would that mean that they´re going to publish those games for Windows 10? You have to install them for playing, this isn´t an streaming service. They need to explain this.
