Just curious, can you detect Zika defects before 10 weeks?

[–]2074red2074 1457 ポイント1458 ポイント  (9子コメント)

No, it's women who believe they may have come into contact with Zika. Or who just want an abortion.

You can detect zika in the pregnant woman earlier than that though, which I'm sure is enough of a reason to abort for many people.

WOW is an amazing group of women. Got me through my abortion in cancun, mexico (lived there, abortion illegal) after given wrong patronizing directions by local prick of a MD, to do at home abortion with pills. They stayed in constant contact by email until all was resolved. Forever grateful to the Netherlands

Here is a source from Deutsche Welle, for those who prefer not to support Russia Today with their clicks.

Now if only we can get boats like these with Mexican dentists and have them just off the coast of Florida, so it doesn't cost a damn fortune for basic care.

Guatemala is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Some bureaucrat just wants a bribe.

Amazing group of women.

I am pretty ashamed to say that their services would be required for women in my country. And I live in the supposedly 21st century Republic of Ireland.

I'm not familiar at all with abortion procedures but can they successfully perform one while the ship is constantly moving?

At ten weeks it's a pill that sheds the endometrium with the implanted embryo.

You can do surgery on a ship if its built for it. Most abortions don't require anything close to 'surgery'.

Medication abortions can be performed during the first few months of pregnancy and are extremely safe. It just involves taking some pills.

There is an amazing documentary (it is on Netflix, I think it's on YouTube maybe too?) about Women On Waves, it is called Vessel and I highly recommend it, it is very insightful and incredibly touching.

Is there a place reporting on this besides Russia Today? I generally don't trust them since they're run by the Kremlin and therefore Putin.

That's a great idea. I'm glad they are giving women safe options. I hope they can continue to do so despite government interference.

This is terrible!! My heart goes out to Women on Waves, and the women in Guatemala. Solidarity 💕

Not trying to put them down or anything, they're doing amazing things... but I was wondering how this is safe? Do they have the required medical equipment and sanitary conditions aboard a boat to perform an abortion?

[–]-oopsie-poopsie- 255 ポイント256 ポイント  (3子コメント)

At ten weeks abortions are done non-surgically with medication.

You know there are medical ships right? Its not a sail boat with no roof?

The power boats you see are the boats carrying women to the main medical ship. The WoW ship is a pretty decent size. Its also medical abortions not surgical abortions.

Oh okay, I hadn't realised that. Thanks for explaining.

As long as they have licensed medical professionals to prescribe the pills and monitor for side effects it's just as safe as going to a clinic.
