I love how KEN's just there like "What the fuck?"

[–]Fox is honestChillexLovesPringles 50

KEN's reaction is quite significant considering he's Japanese

[–]NNID: hounvs. G&W 🍳hounvs 46

Japanese culture looks down on this behavior just as much. Anime isn't something everyone watches over there and isn't typically something you brag about being into

[–]Fox is honestChillexLovesPringles [

I know Japan hates that as well. Just find it ironic haha

As someone who only really watches Melee, is this the same Ken from melee? The one that plays marth?

no, he doesnt play smash 4 and he is sponsered by liquid

The Nintendo invitational

Ah shiet I forgot about that

Wasn't our boy PPMD one of the firsts to play smash 4? haha I remember he played like fox or something in that nintendo sponsored smash invitational.

He played during the invitational! There's a match where he plays fox against a Little Mac

I think s2j is the only melee player who has literally not once played smash 4 (as stated on stream)

He said "doesn't play" as in an actively continuing action.

I would have thought that the community would have people who grew up as outcasts due to being nerdy/geeky/gamers/etc., so I'd expect less of your attitude around here. He might be doing something totally weird, but at least he's not being a condescending asshole. You could learn a lesson from that.

[–]I suck at this gameatomheartother -5

How dare he has something that makes him happy, preposterous.

While I'm inclined to agree, if Dabuz is being serious here, that's just a tad to out there for me. Talking to a stuffed animal (or whatever that is) and actually meaning it is just creepy.

If the standard is just whatever makes people happy, that justifies a lot of questionable actions (to say the least).

yeah, this is the first thing that came to mind

why did it have to be a Luka doll though, you'd be far more memey and far less cringey if you used a rubber duck

or better yet, just a picture of Duck

It's a lot cringier because he's talking to a doll, but what he's doing is called "rubber ducking."

Programmers talk to rubber ducks aloud to hear themselves find the errors in their coding.

if that's the case, It'd be smarter to do it to a waifu or his old luma then to a rubber duck.

Was that Luka!? Does a Vocaloid count as a coach? Getting a pep talk from one of those concert holograms would certainly be interesting. Then again vocaloid are basically instruments, it wouldn't be unlike bringing a guitar as a musicians comfort.

Just reading this thread makes me feel disgusted. I don't know if that doll is his waifu, but even if it is so what?

I never thought I would read so much hate for waifus on fucking Reddit.

Also he is going to see this thread sooner or later and just thinking about his reaction makes me depressed.

Not just Reddit. It's a subreddit specific to a videogame marketed towards kids.

Really disappointing attitude displayed in this thread, considering that many of us were probably social outcasts growing up. We've even had to deal with being the outcast fighting game within the FGC. Now let's make fun of one our top players.

Ok I'd not deny this is a bit off but some of you guys are straight up assholes about it. I've seen professional athletes have way weirder rituals then this, if this was a chain or w/e no one would bat an eye.

No reason to be such a tosser, then again the guy putting the camera on it is just as much of a dick.

If you think what someone does is weird, ask yourself if they are hurting someone or themselfs with their behaviour? If the answer is no you should geniunely respect the person for who they are and continue to mind your own business.

Nobody is attacking him for doing it. Nobody claimed it hurt them. But it IS fucking weird. And he did it in public on live stream. So people are going to talk about it. Don't get butt hurt because people find it weird that there are grown men that talk to dolls.

So you think people calling him deadass, claiming mental illness, isnt attacking? Don't know what world you live in but in mine thats considered exactly that. I am not butt hurt that people find it weird, I find it weird, but why we all have to judge is beyond me ergo I stand by my point.

calling him deadass

You know that "deadass" means "seriously", right?

He probably though the camera couldnt see that. Is he actually rubber ducking though? I cant see his laptop. Still, he fucked up.

Dabuz doing this kind of things is one of the reasons why I like watching him. It's funny. Someone draw a comic because of this and I still remember the edit with Dabuz and Rosalina (can't find it though).

The real question is who the doll is supposed to be.

It's Luka, a vocaloid.

[–]NNID: Barney-SaurChalkmans 3

A what?

It's the name of a voice synthesizing software: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocaloid

Marketing attached some characters to the voices, one thing led to another, and you get this kind of phenomenon.

ITT:Weebs making fun of another weeb

For real, how do you expect me to know what a "vocaloid" is...

Google exists

Or you could break down the word. vocal+oid. What else ends in oid? droid. vocal droid. Oh neat that implies a speaking robot or something.

Not that it really matters, but the suffix -oid means resembling. There is no way that "resembling vocals" should mean "speaking robot" to anybody that isn't familiar with whatever show this is from. His comment is perfectly valid.

Resembling vocals is actually way more accurate, it's a synthesized vocals program. I was explaining my thought process when I first encountered the word.

Regardless, the comment "For real, how do you expect me to know what a "vocaloid" is..." is seriously begging for a LMGTFY answer.

You're being an asshole, especially because oid has nothing directly to do with robots, it means like or similar to. A factoid is something that appears to be a fact but really isn't. An android is something that appears to be a man but really isn't. A planetoid is something that appears to be a planet but really isn't. Etc. At least know your shit before you try and talk down to someone.

Ok, that makes it even more clear. Imitation of vocals, which is exactly what a vocaloid is.

Google still does exist tho, and anyone who asks "For real, how do you expect me to know what a "vocaloid" is..." is just begging for that answer.

To be fair it would be very difficult to connect the concept of similar to a voice and the doll we see on stream. It would be better described as the mascot for a synthesized voice used in music than simply as a vocaloid, since the vocaloid is the synthesized voice and the doll is just a marketing gimmick.

The mascot of a vocaloid is referred to as a vocaloid. This almost never creates confusion.
