Is this sub run by NRIs ?
Let me think:
  • Every other post on this sub is jerk-off material for those looking to move out of India.
  • Steep drop in activity since Trump and his crazy shenanigans.
  • Most responses are seen for posts looking for info on how to move to the U.S. and/or by NRIs (surprisingly, partaking in NRI-bashing themselves and/or, unsurprisingly, India-bashing).
Need more?

Dude, we had a poll asking people in this sub to identify themselves and IIRC something like 25-30% of all people here are NRIs.
Further, among the remaining 70%, many are looking to flee India at first best opportunity.
Lastly, most people in this sub belong to the top 5% of India. They don't identify with gulf workers at all and can't give two shits if any of them die in the gulf.

5% nahi. 0.5%

There are lot of NRIs(Americans and european) And a lot of wannabe American NRI Techies on this sub.
[-]PM-me-ur-hair 3 points (1 children)
It's almost amazing how much of a hard on people here have for the yanks.
[-]akcabc 1 points
Yup. They make them look like some sort of angels devoid of faults and Bhartiya people are like made up of fault for them.

Forget middle east, this does not happen to incidents that happen in India.

If you unreddit that post then their explanation is that "it is much difficult when something like this happens when you are in different country"
Like somebody is forcing them to become wage slaves in another country which is in fact true for labourers in middle east.

Don't worry these "American" indians will delete your post too
They will talk shit about indians to firangs all day but at night they won't forget to come to this sub

This sub is almost as disconnected from des as your average South Bombay resident.

Also so many Indian Children die everyday in India because of Malnutrition . i just wish every single Indian has knowledge of and eradicates Malnutrition. Present so called govt programs don't even address 5% of problem.
Will anyone here run a Malnutrition awareness program to reach as many Indians?

It does. The swatch bharat abhiyan is IMO major step in eradicating malnutrition.

This is going to be a great thread. I can see it already.
[-]TheGreatOneRock 2 points (3 children)
If it stays
As soon as those (((Indias))) see it, it will be gone
[-]GoldPisseR 2 points
Man this is shameless though isn't it? They seem to have a really thin skin.
[-]random_account1124 [score hidden]
And it's gone.

Good question. I'll try to answer this.
  1. Not many gofundme campaigns for Middle Eastern Indians.
  2. This news made headlines across newspapers in India. E.g. It was a top story in The Hindu and The Telegraph. So, it makes sense to have a stickied post about it.
  3. The hegemony in India is with the middle class. So, anything that hits close to home, get instant coverage.
I agree that this was strange, but let's hope this starts a precedent and isn't a one off.

Not many gofundme campaigns for Middle Eastern Indians
Yes, but why?
This news made headlines across newspapers in India
Again, why? There was a great post in this sub a few days ago about the blatant hypocrisy when almost nobody in India reacted over the lynching of a muslim man being killed for being accused of eating beef(without any evidence).
The hegemony in India is with the middle class
Now we're getting real. Also, please change "middle class" to upper class. The "middle class" is a total misnomer.
let's hope this starts a precedent and isn't a one off
It's not a one-off, it's a pattern which many have remarked upon. The double standards are huge.

No it is not a good enough reason at all. Who cares what telegraph says
A post about it was good but sticking it

It's a mixed blessing when we as individuals rally support for those affected by a tragedy.
On one hand we help those whom would not ordinarily be in need in their time of despair. We happily help how we can and then pat ourselves on the back.
On the other hand it diverts attention from on going crisis's/plights, or others whom may be in need.
Although it is important to help, so is the realisation that we can not help everyone no matter how hard we try. That we shouldn't admonish one groups effort in favour of another cause, but perhaps we can cast light and let people know of way that we can try and help. It's one thing to say "We should help the poor XYZ instead of group ABC". It's another to say "I've done 123 to help the XYZ and right now you can too. Here's how..."
