Because as you said, it isn't a national treasure like the FA CUP and World Cup. It's the fifth most important competition for an English club in the Premier League.

Probably because Sky bought the rights

League cup final hasn't been on national TV in a long long time, can't remember it ever been on TBH. I doubt even they'd be arsed to compete with sky for the rights.

I want to say that they had a couple of seasons on the BBC. I vaguely remember them showing a semi final or something maybe in the late 2000s/early 2010s.

E: Our win in 2010 was live on BBC.

Yeah I remember that, think that was when BBC had a small rights deal with the Football League cos they would occasionally show a match from The Championship, L1 & L2.

Channel 5 has highlights, but not been live on ITV or BBC for 25+ years.

Can you imagine if the world cup was only available on subscription channels? Viewership would plummet and there would be a whole less love for the competition.

Irrelevant. There is a mandate by the British government that the World Cup, European Championships and the FA Cup final must all be made available on terrestrial TV. Qualifiers and previous cup rounds are shown on other channels though.

The League Cup has never fallen under the mandate because it comes as a part of the Football League TV packages.

The broadcasting act wasn't it? But you're right, the Grand National, Wimbledon, The Olympics etc are all covered by that too.

Because only a few sporting events HAVE to be on terrestrial TV. FA Cup Final, Wimbledon and the Olympics for example. Everything else is down to money.
