>> In an exclusive interview, President Trump says he wants to make sure the US nuclear weapons arsenal is second to none. I'm Steve Holland in Washington. I sat down in the oval office with President Trump, and we talked about the American nuclear arsenal. He said for the first time since he was elected that he wants to ensure the United States has superior nuclear capacity, that the United States has fallen behind in this capacity.

>> It would be wonderful. A dream would be that no country would have nukes. But if countries are gonna have nukes, we're gonna be at the top of the pack.>> He seemed very concerned about North Korea and what to do about its ballistic missile program.>> We have a very big problem, and a very dangerous problem for the world, with North Korea.

We're very angry at what he's done. And, frankly, this should've been taken care of during the Obama administration.>> In a comment likely to be controversial, the president told me he's not ruling out meeting personally with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.>> Under circumstances, there's always, I would never say no.

>> He thinks that China needs to do more to rein in North Korea.>> Well I think China has tremendous control over North Korea. Whether they say so or not is up to them, but they have tremendous control over North Korea. I think they could solve the problem very easily if they want to.

>> He's also willing to consider accelerating a missile defense system for Japan and South Korea.>> Missile defense is one of many things that can be done.>> There's talks of more than that. Well, there's talks of a lot more than that. We'll see what happens.>> Make no mistake, the President thinks that North Korea is a dangerous threat and wants to do something about it.

Now I asked him about whether he still thinks China is a currency manipulator. He suggested that he still does think that.>> I think they're grand champions at manipulation of currency.>> But he's not ready to declare them in violation of manipulating their currency. The President stressed time and again that he just got there.

He's only been in office a month. He can't solve everything all at once, but that he is starting to tackle some of these big picture items that face him. Tax reform, health care, China, Russia, all of these are huge priorities for him. He just realizes it's gonna take a little time.
