Rashford's progress (self.reddevils)

Is anyone even slightly bothered with Rashford's development or lack of obvious strides in his game. I expected he and Martial to catch that second-season fever, Martial especially. While Marcus hasn't been bad at all, far too often I find he doesn't affect the scoreline, create or trouble the opposition much. He's involved in quite a few almost moments and quite often passes sideways or backwards. Granted he has not seen a lot of game time and is still just 19, the way things are going for him right now just causes me to re-evaluate his potential career arc. Or I could just be missing the signs of growth here and there. Any thoughts?

It's true that he hasn't been improving that much lately, but he's only 19 and it's normal.. He still shows a lot of glimpses, so I'm not really worried.

He's not playing as much as he used to, so it's harder for him to shine. With the new signings, he's not able to be one of the stars on the team like last year.

Plus, his attitude is great and he wants to be better

I think something he needs to improve is expanding his playstyle. Seems the way he plays best is just coming off the bench and running around their tired defenders to cross or take a shot. Not able to cut inside like Martial and not seen great link up play.

I'm sure he'll get there though, still very young.

I'd even go as far as saying his linkup play has regressed as this season has gone on. He did okay at the start of the year, but recently it's just been bomb it ahead of me and I'll chase it.

This could just be Mou giving him those instructions to keep it simple for him for now. It does put pressure on the defense.

You stated the exact reasons why I'm not too worried about it. He's 19. He hasn't played a whole lot this season. Fixture congestion is going to be extremely high coming up so it'll be good for him to get more playing time/back into a grove.

Edit: It seems to me that he also feels more comfortable playing as a striker

He's been playing out on the left mostly, but he's still looked dangerous and changed a few games on his own. Think he needs to add some more muscle, particularly in his lower body.

I'm kinda cherry picking here but in my opinion the thing he really needed to add to his game is hold up play and in the last few games (particularly the one today) I noticed that Rashford has been getting better at holding players off the ball and retaining it. Not huge but thats gotta be something he's learning from zlatan (and probably Pogba, it's like his signature move).

He's learning a new position. So that makes it harder for him to progress. That said, I don't think there's a lot to worry about. I thought he played well today.

His place is playing striker, he's so much better there as far as I've seen
