I'm debating someone who said that Trump was elected "because enough people were getting sick of our government bleeding funds." I pointed out that we're bleeding funds anyway to pay for the security detail for Trump's and his family, and the inefficient decision to keep Melania in Trump Tower.
Person then said:
I don't think you are an idiot for thinking the American people pay for Melania to live in her own home that they own. I know it's factually untrue but you can think what you want. [Emphasis added]
To which I said:
The American people are paying taxes that go into the security detail. Trump's whole family has the Secret Service following them around, remember?
To which they replied:
No they aren't. The American public, the average person anyway, pays into Medicaid and social security. The rich pay for Federal taxes. I can't imagine you would whine about that.
I may be wrong on the very last point, but I'm saying the real issue here is that Trump and his family are incurring too great of a cost on the taxpayers in general. Am I wrong here?
