Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is set to play for Manchester United's reserves on Wednesday night.
But the defender's loan deal at Wolves has NOT been cut short.
The 20-year-old left-back is scheduled to feature for Nicky Butt's team against Porto in the quarter-final of the Premier League International Cup.
However, he will be eligible to play for Wolves against Birmingham in the Championship on Friday night if he is selected.
Borthwick-Jackson, who made 14 appearances for United's first team last season, agreed a season-long loan deal at Molineux in the summer. But he has not featured since the 3-2 defeat to Derby in November.
Loan rules state that a player can play for their parent club during a loan spell as long as it is not at first team level and the loan club agree. United have obtained permission from Wolves and Borthwick-Jackson could be in the team to play Porto.
It is a boost for temporary manager Nicky Butt, whose team have lost five of their last six games.
After Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Reading, the Under-23s sit second from bottom of the Premier League 2 Division one table, just a point clear of bottom side Leicester.
