Why is iPad 2 not supported anymore for Candy Crush (Crash)

Hi,

i have placed candy crush for a long time and i am at level 1530.

i have many crash issues last weeks, and now i read in one of your answer, that IOS on iPad 2 is not supported anymore???

It says: "Please also note that for iOS, we only offer support for iOS version 6.0 or later on the following models:- iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and later models- iPad 3 and later models- iPad Mini 2nd generation and later- iPod Touch 4th generation and later"

WHY NOT? I know for sure that many, many users have a big probleem with that.... Can you please fix the issues for iPad 2 asap, and give support here too, as it used to be?

kind regards,

Mike

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to give you all an update. We highly value your thoughts and feedback. We have listened and we are currently working as hard as we can to find a solution for you, so that you can continue to enjoy playing on your current devices.

I’m delighted to inform you that this has been fixed in Candy Crush Soda Saga and Farm Heroes Super Saga. We are working hard on finding solutions for our other games too.

For those of you playing Candy Crush Soda Saga or Farm Heroes Super Saga, you will receive the update automatically the next time you open your game while having an Internet connection.

You might have to quit and restart the game if you play on mobile. If you haven't received the update within the next 12 hours you will need to delete the app and reinstall it. Please note that all your free boosters and saved lives which are stored locally on your device may be lost during this process.

If you have any issues or questions please come back to us, we are always happy to help!

Thank you all for your loyalty and understanding!

So the solution to keep playing is to buy a new device.  Unless King is buying us new phones and tablets, it would be better to fix the app.  Currently at 1817...so I am not a wimp at the game.  Nor, can I afford a new IPAD and new Phone.

The answer from Team King Care is ridiculous. Use a newer device ?!? I have an iPad mini and the game does work sometimes but is becoming less and less reliable.  They need to fix the problem for the users who have been playing for a long time!

I refuse to believe that you can't fix this problem. You just lost me. No way I'm buying a new iPad so I can play this game. Pet Rescue works on the iPad and so does the Trivia game. You could fix this if you wanted to.

This is the worst answer I have yet to see. Game crashes all the time since 9.3.5. Didn't do that before.

I work in development and I know for a fact that whatever memory or issue with memory would have appeared in the early iterations of this patch. Not the last one.

What it is for you King is that you may have to significantly rework your code to deal with a piece code from 9.3.5. And I bet what was evaluated was the cost of fixing this with how many were impacted by this issue. I'm pretty confident that you evaluated that the number of users that would upgrade their machines with those who would uninstall your games would offset any possible losses.

Now the issue is not releasing a new game and giving specific requirements. It's about a game that has been running fine for all of us until 9.3.5 reared its ugly head. Your answer is that our machines are not supported anymore? If the game was not supported anymore, it should have been announced prior to 9.3.5. NOT when it's released and a slew of users report it.

You should be ashamed of yourselves for this hypocrisy. Then what does it matter. It's your product and you do what you want. After all it's your client base and you run it as you see it fit.

Well said. We should have been warned about this PRIOR to the update but then, lots of us wouldn't have bothered continuing to purchase gold bars etc. I DEMAND a refuns of the £11.99 i spent a couple of nights ago!

I agree totally. This is a cop out! Fix it or LOTS of players will be finding something else to do!! Not and acceptable answer King!!
hawkmbl Three months ago
So, what have you guys added to this game that is eating up all that memory? Whatever it is, we don't need it. Other King games play just fine on iPad. What crap.

This is a stupid answer... I play on my phone as well, and it is a lot worst (wiko) than my iPad and it works perfectly... I will uninstall it for ever :D bye bye!

This is ridicoulous! It was working fine, u make an update and it's not compatible with ipad 2 anymore? That's not the problem of our ipads, it's the problem of your update! I demand too that all my boosters and stuff from Soda Crush are transferred to my iphone! And i agree, it should have been announced before the update, not after!

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately iPad II does not have sufficient resources to play Candy Crush Saga.

The limitation is in the RAM for the operation system of your tablet. You might have either 16, 32 or 64GB of RAM to store data but only 0,5GB of reserved RAM to handle both the operation system as well as running apps.

When iPad II was released back in 2011 it was with iOS4. Today the latest version of the operation system is 9.3 which require even more of the limited resources available. Candy Crush has also evolved with more levels and features and combined can create issues where the iPad crashes.

You will however still be able to enjoy the game on Facebook and King.com - just make sure you have the game connected online and you can continue playing on a stationary computer.

Kind regards,

- Mark, Team King Care

Hi Mark from Team King Care, although I agree that the iPad2 may not have enough resources to correctly play the current version of CC, it should be noted by all the players that King is responsible for most of the crashes as it has dramatically changed the game from when it was 1st introduced. The game now includes a ton of commercials for new games from King, a ton of interruptions from King at all level loads, a delay caused by connecting to FB, etc. all of these new useless and frustrating interruptions, especially the commercials of Your own games, will cause the iPad2 to try and accommodate all the resources you are forcing upon it. To prove my point, all one has to do is run CC on iPad2 in offline mode so that it does not connect to anything and is no longer interrupted. There may still be a lack of resources to run without any crashes but it is a huge improvement over the connected online version. Why is it that companies that have had a very successful product find the need to modify it to the point that it is no longer usable by the very same clientele that put them on the map!
King Maxy Nine months ago
Hi Mark, I too have an iPad2, and have been having problems with the game crashing. Your explanation makes sense, but what I don't understand is why the game doesn't offer a disclaimer explaining that it isn't supported on the iPad2 version? Silly me, I've spent lots and lots of money for cheats and now I find out it's all in vain!!! Isn't that taking my money under false pretenses?
Kathryn Reese Eight months ago
Has anyone at King caught the shot out of the clue gun that this doesn't happen with any other games? I play several other company's games with no crashing issues at all, on my iPad2. I realize is quite easy to blame the iPad. But this is ridiculously unfair to people like me who have paid real money to play this game. Your programmers are doing something wrong - They need to find a fix for this and fast.
DiRhody Two months ago
Mark. As Kathryn stated. Money has been spent, my money. You do not have any disclaimer stating that older ios's will not be supported. That's not good business. Law suits come from fraud. I have a iPad 2. Been playing, spending lots of money. Now I find out that my game is not supported. Buy a newer model? That's your answer? Bad Mark, bad. Fix this. Pass it up the corporate chain of command. Fraud? No disclaimer? But all the new stuff you have done. Get this fixed. I may get lucky, Christmas is a few weeks away. A new a iPad Air may be under my tree. Then I must transfer my game over to it. STILL! I spent money on a game that is no longer supported on my iPad. You knew this. Still took my money. Get it straightened out.

I got my similar question closed as it is a duplicate of this subject.

Please note however, that out of the 3 candy crush games I have (Saga, Soda and Jelly), only Jelly is not working.

The first one to change something is Apple as they decide to bring out newer iOS versions, but excluding updates for previous device models.

Hey guys,

As far as I read and as far as I know, nobody has mentioned anything about us needing to buy a new iPad.

These days there are so many new, decent and solid devices, both phones and tablets, with specs superior to iPad2 and iPad Mini first generation, but way cheaper.

You can buy a 3 GB RAM device with 16 GB storage and a 128 GB Micro sd slot for 120 €, say a 130 $. Ok I admit, it doesn´t have an Apple on it´s back and yes, it probably can survive a drop or two.

Make it 200 $ and you get full HD screens, fancy camera´s and a powerful battery too. No need to buy the new iPad Pro 12.9 Inch display for 799 $ nowadays, just saying.

Wow. Your answer REALLY IS - go buy a new device. Pathetic.
Judy Adams Two months ago
You seem to miss the point that we can not all afford a new device period. Not a better one at a cheaper price makes no difference to a lot of us. My iPad mini was a gift and I will not be asking for another one because King can't get their crap together!
Heather Griffin Two months ago
Hey Judy, in this era everybody seems to get a new device every 1,2,3,4 or 5 years. I am not saying that this is good or bad or even expressing a personal opinion, I am just saying that this is the tendency I am seeing around me. I hardly know any people that still carry their very first smartphone or iPhone around. Do you?

Hi Kazza, I have an older version (1.80.1) that I can share with you if you like. It's good up to level 1970.

Making people believe they have to buy a new device is not a responsible answer. The simple fact is the last few app updates broke something for a lot of users. I even tried completely deleting the game and starting again at level 1 with plenty of memory available - Crash, crash, crash. Please put your techs to work to come up with a fix for what they broke so we can get back to enjoying the game again. I play many other similar games on the same iPad - No crash, crash, crash.... It's just your games now. Thank you.

Hi wasted alien,

iPhone 4S is compatible with the game but if you have the iPhone 4 then you'll need to upgrade to a newer phone.

If it is permitted (which I assume it must be) I can share the ipa file for version 1.80.1 (up to level 1970) which will work on your iPad 2. Maybe someone from King can confirm that there's no personal information contained in the file. The procedure is simple, you delete the app from your iPad and from iTunes on your computer. You then copy the ipa file to the appropriate iTunes folder on your computer then you sync your iPad to the computer and copy the file to the iPad. I BELIEVE that should work. Since it's a free app, I don't think the file is tied to a specific device.

It seems like King could have left the game alone so people could continue playing it even though their iPad isn't the latest and greatest version.  Yes, you can still play on your laptop but we all know that the game is very different from the iPad version.

Yes it is a very demanding game, perhaps the next update will work only in IBM Blue Gene mainframe...

I have an ipad ii, as millions of people- congrts it was a very smart busness move not to support it. But no problem I will find another game to play.

No the text size didn't help.   I found that if you wait for each step to load, the game eventually can be played.  I freed up some storage space which seemed to have helped also.
