From the study...

Although binding is associated with many negative physical health outcomes, it is also associated with significant improvements in mood and mental health. In response to open-ended questions about mental health effects and motivations for binding, participants consistently affirmed that the advantages of binding outweighed the negative physical effects. Many participants said that binding made them feel less anxious, reduced dysphoria-related depression and suicidality, improved overall emotional wellbeing and enabled them to safely go out in public with confidence.

This will just be used as proof that a flat chest saves lives so mastectomies should be given to anybody who asks, regardless of age and fully funded by insurers/government healthcare.

What goes through my mind as I read that paragraph is I would have said the same thing about my cutting habit once upon a time. Doesn't make it good. Tragic.

EDIT-Now that I think about it, has any study ever been done on transpeople and their rates of self harm? I think that would be very enlightening. One could argue that SRS is a form of self harm.

I get shortness of breath just from wearing bras, so this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Wearing something that makes it harder for your rib cage to expand is obviously going to make it harder for you to breathe. Duh.
