Only if the guy is black and the girl is white. The opposite is cool though.

The opposite may not get as much flak but it is still not cool to a lot of people

Dude, dude, if the black girl is fit, light skinned and eloquent, it's totally cool.

People still reduce black women (or otherwise non western women) to some exotic sex symbol or something though. It's not racist in the same sense but people definitely treat you differently.

Lots of people treat black men as exotic sex partners as well, just look at how most cuckold relationships only want a black participant.

Who would classify those relationships as healthy tho?

I don't think so as that has to lead to some wierd trust issues eventually, but the point still is that both black men and women get these super racist sexual expectations.

just look at how most cuckold relationships only want a black participant

I feel like all of these explanations of what "people" do are kind of the problem itself

How is observing something that is belittling and vocalising it part of the problem of something/someone being belittled?

I mean... This is a pretty bold statement. The "you're pretty for a black chick" guys might think that way. A woman of color once accused me of fulfilling some jungle fever fantasy with her, and I was just like... I legit liked you, but whatever. I think that's generally a pretty unfair thing to accuse someone of.

Long story short, yes. In much of the south a couple where both people are black is totally fine but an interracial couple really bothers some racists. Doesn't make sense to me.

On the flip side, there are three interracial marriages in my family now, and on the more distant branches that are a lot more conservative than my nuclear family. For the most part people have been very accepting, and I've seen some family members who were maybe a bit on the racist scale really turn around and be very very accepting. It looks like progress to me.

Two generations back and there are grandparents who would have punched the black husband if they were still alive to be able to. But my generation's children are going to have a much more diverse family and better attitude and environment then the one myself and my cousins had.

My grandparents had problems because they were from Catholic and Protestant families... nowadays this couldn't be more irrelevant. I'm glad times have changed to more openness.

Just don't go to Ireland. It's still relevant to them.

Yea my Dad had to convert from Catholic to Lutheran just so my Grandma would attend the wedding and speak to him. I converted the other direction (by choice) and my parents couldn't have cared less.

Tennessee here, and I know so many people who are "totally NOT racist, ok??", it just "really pisses them off to see people mixing races, that's all!" The delusion is so damn strong. How do you even say, "I'm not racist, it just pisses me off to see a black man taking our white women" and not hear yourself as the words are coming out of your mouth? And we're not even the most racist state down here!

I moved to WA for 10 years and I think about going back all the time, going back to being surrounded by progressive thinking and acceptance and good things like that, but then I think, "What kind of a difference can I make in a place like that?" This is where we need more acceptance and people who actually use their brains, so I'll stick it out until I start to die inside.

GA here, same story.

I think people genuinely believe they're not racist so long they're not actively lynching black people or calling them slurs in public.

My grandparents are like that. Nearly every family gathering they will bring up the (((lazy welfare recipients stealing their hard earned white money))).

I don't visit much anymore. I think they'd lose it if they found out I didn't love trump. I just don't talk politics much irl anymore in general

I live in MA and my gf went into a diner with some of her friends. She was with 2 of her girlfriends (all white), and the 2 guys they were seeing. One of the guys was black and the other was Hispanic. They were told there would be an hour+ wait even though they could clearly see tables available. Probably a top 5 "progressive" state in the country but you go to a more rural area and shit is still backwards.

probably because once they found out the child has down they terminate the pregnancy. Before modern abortion they would ship them to a down syndrome village. I can confirm, my mom and her church congregation go back to Vietnam every year to donate and help provide better living standard for these villages. Its sick really.

My little cousin has downs and he's Asian

Probably just a matter of numbers, I don't think there's an inherited aspect to downs. Just meiosis randomly gone wrong, usually in an older woman. Maybe lots of white people are having kids too late in the game.

Can't believe you're like the only one who mentioned this. It's really disgraceful, honestly.

I don't see what's wrong with it. People with down syndrome are often looked down on because they don't fit in socially as well as others. Having a picture like this go viral helps normalize it and helps others view them as equal.

How does it help normalise it if the only reason it's being retweeted is because they have Downs? That's basically the opposite.

They don't really look like they need any pity, they enjoy themselfs and are by no means worth any pity. Who cares about retweets anyways?

Bruv you payin for retweets or suttin? Shits free, it's a cute story, would rather make this go viral then some stupid ass "vine comedy"

I don't pity them. I'm happy that two people get to experience a traditional American rite of passage that many people with special needs don't get to have. I don't feel sorry for them.

I also think that sharing pictures like this helps to educate people- people with special needs are often treated like children and get disregarded or left out of these things... I suppose I just see all the ways it isn't just exploiting two young people for retweets.

You don't consciously pity them but subconsciously you know that they experience a lot of difficulties in their life that normal people don't. That's why most people would retweet this image, but not an image of two normal high schoolers at prom.

I just think it's adorable, I didn't feel pity at all :s

STORY TIME: This is a long one so bear with me.....

Back Story: When pops was locked up my mom babysat to keep us clothed and fed. One of the family's she worked for worked for the FBI. They were really nice people but my mom always assumed my dad would make her quit working for them once he got out. We'll, he came out super religious and changed, he ended up befriending the FED Family. They got super close to us to the point we would spend holidays together and my pops would shoot hoops with the husband. One Christmas they decided to give me a German Shepard that allegedly came from the same breeders they got the FED dogs from. I was super amped about having a killing machine.... Turns out this dog was fucking retarded as fuuuuuuuck! Homeboy was named Norman first off. We had him for 3 years and shit was fucking wild, son. He would run up in my neighbors pad if they left their door open, he hopped in my dad's Truck bed and hitched a ride with him halfway to work, he didn't like people covered in blankets so he would drag you out by the feet, he had a gang of cat homies for some reason, he would jump in our Monte Carlo and honk the horn repeatedly at least once a week and the list goes on. My family hated him but he was my homeboy....

THE INCIDENT: My mom was determined to keep us from gang banging (nice try ma) so she used to make me go to school in another city. The bus stop for the local school was right in front of my pad so the homies used to kick it on my porch every morning before we parted ways. Well this morning shit was chaotic. Norman was running a muck terrorizing the neighborhood as usual and mom's was yelling at me to get the fuck to school. I was like nah fuck that I gotta find Norman. He usually came home but that day he was playing tag with a local pit bull up and down the block. I eventually got his attention with a piece of ham. Once he saw I had food he darted across the street.... Out of nowhere a fuckin short bus hit the corner and BAM! Norman went down. It was straight up pandemonium. Bus driver was crying, I was heated, about 15 of the homies gathered around to bandage Norman up and a large crowd was gathering.... well one of my boys whom I won't name was a little on the slow side also. When he saw the handicap kids "smiling" He started pounding on the glass and yelling "stop fucking laughing" He didn't realize they were fucking handicapped. Shit was fucking hysterical, he was running up and down the side of the bus punching windows. My mom had to grab him and calm him down. We did all we could for poor Norman but he died the next day. We legit had a burial service for him on the block. All the adults hated him but the youngins on the block had love for Norman.... still one of the saddest days of my life. R.I.P Homie

TL;DR My handicapped dog got hit by a handicap bus and my handicapped homie went crazy.

Disclaimer: this story is 100% truth I put it on my mom.
