You need to take time to rest, that's the principle behind muscle growth. Sit ups in particular can really cause tearing. I would advise going every other day for a week or two and then working up. Anyway the focus in thr army is running, alternate between long slow runs and doing 60-120s (60 seconds sprints, 120 seconds jog) for 2 miles

One day work push ups and sit ups, the other day go for a jog/run. its what we did. When things get stale change it up, there are all kinds of things you can do. Like for instance do a set of "pyramids" start with 25 push ups / sit ups and work your sets all the way down to 1, so do sets of 25, 24, 23, 22.....down to one and back up again. Also get used to doing lots of flutter kicks it will build your core strength up. Don't get discouraged you will get the hang of it, i was a nerdy kid my whole life but i got the hang of it. Also run a shit ton.
