Viga Loves Lol saw the Manga at a store not too long ago, 10$, thought since it was popular I would find it again.....

It did get a proper US release. The TV in 50 volumes, the movies, not sure about the OVAs, except for the last which didn't. Maybe for the 40th anniversary next year. Spam Viz to finally release the manga complete, and Funimation so we can get telecines of the movies at least.

It has been released with AnimeEigo, but it was back in the day and those are hard to find. Sadly, I doubt we're EVER going to get a DVD or Blu Ray. The manga was also released here by Viz, but it's LOOONG out of print.

I remember seeing the intro and I was embarrassed. I was so new into anime (not counting Pokemon, DBZ, Naruto, etc.) I love this anime.

Since after that it was following the a manga in some way but for many the quality just dropped. In both story and art and animation standpoint.

As far as I know, no company (at least in America) has picked up this anime for release in America, not even Viz, who owns the rights for nearly all of Rumiko Takahashi's work (with the notable exception being Urusei).

+cesarmanuel51 there is a company, as it was dubbed and released in the US, but it is very likely that the company that holds the license is now defunct and the owner of that company doesn't want to let go of the licenses, this is a very common story actually.

+cesarmanuel51 there is, but you can use the US's very loose copyright laws that side with the copyright holders. essentially you can use legal proceedings the prevent the rights from transferring.

the license ran out cause this company was releasing english dubbed DVDs and VHS but now since the series is so old, Viz won't even touch the anime (or the manga in that matter... even though they still own the damn license for it and has done fuck all with it for 26 years, Thanks Viz, make me pay $80 for manga i cant complete)

+BobbyJoeXForgotenSB the ending is rather disappointing anyways, and the lead up to it wasn't very good either. every story arc felt like it contributed nothing to the characters, because by the end of the story arc, everything went back to 0. i'd say her later works were much better.

You aren't wrong the series doesn't stand the test of time because is really a show of that era. If the characters have actually gone through some change I would like the series but they don't. The most I could say is that ataru wasn't as much of a bitch and acted more like pimp in way. Lum is basically the original otaku dream girl but she also inspired the obnoxious main lead that likes to torture man because rumiko is sadistic that way. As whole it should be looked at as formula rather than actual series not much different from ranma. They only reason fans like it more is because of Lum.

+kiwachi honestly... i don't see it... she (or anyone in the series for that matter) ever get any meaningful character development. every chapter was pretty much the same, i actually read it until the end. it was main character hits on an attractive girl while trying to get away from Lum's affections, then she zaps him, rinse repeat until the final chapter. it's not like there wasn't something there to do more with, actually i was totally on board with the premise of the manga, but the other main love interest got side lined real fast, to the point that she is barely ever in the manga even though she is supposed to be a main love interest in the story who competes with Lum over the affections of the protagonist. i really wish i could like Lum as much as everyone else obviously does, but since the series never actually went anywhere with it's premise and there was never any real character development, i just can't see it.

It's a light romantic comedy...probably appropriate for ages 13+ rather than really little kids. There's nothing adult in the series...the raciest thing in it is Lum's bikini (Well and one scene in the pilot episode where Ataru steals her bikini top, but that's never repeated and is onscreen for a grand total of about 2 seconds)
