Have you ever heard something like 'Respect is earned, not demanded'? I feel like my parents told me something like that.

Now consider. Have you ever heard this being said to a woman? Is the default position to respect women, but men must earn that same level of respect?

I kind of see where the answer comes from. I think women as a collective should be respected in the same way women should respect men as a collective.

The problem is I think most women are ego-centric so the collective is interpreted as the individual, yet respect for an individual must be earned not demanded. I respect everyone by default but I've met a lot of people who have proved by their actions that they don't get my respect any longer, and interestingly, these are the people who demand respect.
