As you all know, the Super Bowl was yesterday. Every year our family has a get together with a few other families and friends at the same time every year. The people who come here I've grown up with and been close friends since virtually day one. To see what it has become is pure and utterly terrible and gross. Please, I NEED guidance. Let me explain...
First, when former President George H. Bush and his wife came onto the field for the coin toss, it was a beautiful sight to see. Being that his health was failing and for once the U.S could stand in unity. All of my friends were in awe basically by the sight of Mr. Bush as well. I have a respect for the Bush family, even though I'm very Liberal and a Democrat. Even though George W. Made some horrible decisions in my opinion, he was a gentleman and an example of what any person can be (i.e the speech after 9/11).
But, when the three ladies sang a pledge (forgive me I can't remember) and added "and sisterhood" to the song, this made them furious. "Here we go again with this bullshit" is what one if them said. Another made a snide comment on "feminism" shortly after. Can someone please tell me, how in the living fuck, is feminsim a bad thing. They took it as insult, to 'us guys'. From what I have learned and experienced, feminism is just women's rights and equality. That's it. Nothing more at all. Am I wrong?
Another friend then went on (and this cracks me up) to say that Hillary Clinton is a "bitch" and said his grandpa was "glad that bitch lost" (referring to the election). He takes his word very seriously I mind you and believes what he says. He also always talks how his grandpa was hot shit back in the day and rubs elbows with a bunch of famous people. I'm sorry, but once I find out you take your 90-year-old racist and sexist grandpa's word as truth, I've lost almost all respect for you. You may disagree with some of her policies politically, but to call her a "bitch" is ridiculous, considering it 's mainly because she's a powerful female. He'll always also talk how his grandpa always throws around the word "n**ger" and thinks it's "awesome". This hurts me, because this guy has been a friend of mine for a while, and to hear this just eats at me when i see him, knowing deep down his roots are built in alt-right hate and bigotry. Am I at fault?
Another friend was talking how he hates his professors as people. I asked him why and he said, "oh, when Trump won, they all acted like the world was going to end". I thought, fair enough. Never asked their politcal opinion, but OK. I'd agree that it's not great to be pesimistic and have hope in all things. BUT, then he said "Obama got us into all of this mess, so there's who to blame". WHERE IS THE FUCKING MESS?! Where? Honestly, all that Obama has done is raise literally everything worth meaning to Republicans from an economic standpoint. But wait. Oh... it's because he's a POWERFUL black man. Oh, how scary, right? Who knew there could be such a thing? Am I missing something here?
Whatever Trump says, his supporters will believe it. He says Obama's a Muslim and the root of ISIS, they believe it. He bans 7 countries from entering the U.S, proclaiming that Muslims are the root of evil in the world, they believe it. He proclaims all news sources (besides Fox News at times) are "fake news" and spread false info, they believe it. Fuck it, he tells them that facts, aren't fact... they believe it. The man is made of propaganda, and his followers for some reason feed on it. I feel like weve heard of this before, haven't we?
Finally, I know this kid is trailor trash, but hear this. I asked him if he'd watched the game last night and he said yes. I told him how Brady is now probably the best QB ever and he agreed. I then asked him why he thought the Falcons choked so hard, and he said, and I kid you not, "it's honestly because they're literally all black". This is a kid who was trying to talk me into Trump being the next great thing. Eh, ill pass.
**Now, can someone tell me why people follow this man and "come out of the closet" so to speak as sexist and racist when Trump is elected? What has America come to?
It's important to know that I'M a white male, living in America and I know what's happening. RESIST. Resist from the hate, fear, fascism, bigotry, racism, and sexism America has has now re-discovered.
I know most of you are in similar situations as myself. What do you do when people spread hate? Do you respond with the facts, even though you know they'll refuse their existance? Or do we simply bystand for the next 4 years?
Sincerely,
Harambae
