In a normal presidency, any of several details in this article would be SCANDALGATE fodder all on their own.
-
-
-
But the
@nytimes has apparently caught on that normal rules do not apply (my thoughts on why would merit their own thread.) -
An article about how Trump signed an order that put Bannon on natsec without knowing would be "FAKE NEWS"'d right out of the gate.pic.twitter.com/8ABsyGurFE
-
It's an explosive detail that in a normal administration would 1) end Bannon's career and 2) imperil Trump's presidency.
-
But to effectively get the message out, the Times has to weave it in as just one detail in an intricate narrative of
#TheRegime's workings. -
Two similarly significant details: 1) Trump cares more about Bannon putting one over on him than he does the travel ban backlash, and...
-
...2) even with Bannon making a naked power play at his expense that made him look bad, Bannon has not been excommunicated or diminished.
-
What we should be taking away from this is that Bannon's hold over Trump is very strong and very real. What is it? I have my thoughts.

@alexandraerin@nytimes I like the part where Trump is mad that he wasn't briefed on the EO he signed to put Bannon on the NSC. My favorite. -
