I guess you're all schooled on what life in Japan is like, but just incase you're not, Japanese society at large are not hooking up.
People there live isolated lives. Now what's strange is when I first heard about this phenomena roughly 8 years ago, my first thought was "These people have gone crazy, most likely due to an obsession with technology".
I recall also thinking "Well they're Japanese, they're weird". And "We in the west are still normal".
A lot has happened in these 8 years, or maybe I'm just seeing it now. But things really are on the decline.
Smart phones, high speed internet and a general distrust in strangers and outsiders has taken the stage.
I wonder how long it will be before we, like the Japanese introduce "rent-a-friends" or open up "cuddle boutiques".
Don't get me wrong, I think it's admirable such services exist, but it's not science fiction, people are actually living like that, and they're depressed, suicidal and fucked up.
Only thing I'm happy about is that I'm 40 now. I think people are ultimately self destructive and will always find a way to take something innocent and pure and exploit it fuck it up and take it to the max. And because of this, society constantly degrades.
