[Meta] Should this sub disable downvoting? Might improve discussion. (self.reddevils)

Some subs remove the downvote arrow from comments. I think this could be useful here, as so many opinions that are viewed as dissenting from what the majority would like to see, are buried in downvotes. It's a bit of a high school popularity contest here, and the discussions suffer IMO.

After discussion, the sub tried this six months ago.. The experiment lasted about one month, after which it was ended..

It didn't really work. People can still downvote through mobile, even if downvoting is 'turned off,' and downvoting can be quite nice as a means to eliminate comments that add nothing to the discussion.

That feature is quite useful at times.

No it's dumb and it doesn't change anything. Plus I'm sorry, but some of us say stupid reactionary shit that should be downvoted. I reacted poorly to a video posted here recently and got -88. I realized what I said was off and I apologized for it which people appreciated.

Eliminating the downvote does nothing but encourage trolls and shitposters. If you get downvoted don't take it personally. If you still remember it put it in an unpopular opinion thread.

I feel it's like having bumper lanes in bowling. When you look around and all the other club subs are playing on the big boy lanes and we've got our bumpers in place it just makes us look like we need the help and can't play by the same rules.
