Just think, in the 1950's, students at UC Berkley marched to protect free speech (among other things). Last night they marched to not only disrupt it, but to outright silence it.

And they didn't just protest, oh no. That's one thing. They smashed down the barricades, lit fires, used pepper spray, threw rocks and threw fireworks at innocent attendees, windows and Campus Security.

Whether you like Milo Yiannopoulos or not is irrelevant. Whether you agree with his politics, or find his point of view utterly abhorrent (or anywhere in between), is irrelevant.

That behaviour is unacceptable, and needs to be stopped.

And let's be clear here - I'm not talking about peaceful protest. I am perfectly aware that the right to free speech does not guarantee you protection from people disagreeing with what you say. But it absolutely does, and should, protect you from violence.

If UC Berkeley and other Universities won't protect the 1st Amendment rights of people invited to their events then someone else has too.
