I don't understand why many redditors pretend that white men have such a difficult time getting scholarships compared to other demographics. First off, ethnic, race, and gender inspired scholarships often allow people of all backgrounds to apply. I even randomly got a scholarship when I applied for financial aid from my university that celebrated African Americans in education, and I'm white. Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that this misconception is all fueled by confirmation bias. Yes, a lot of white men can't pay for college and don't get scholarships, I'm sure, and those are the stories redditors love. But I believe statistics show that white people are disproportionately awarded more scholarships than people of color (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). I don't know why white male redditors (redundant?) believe the system is out to get them.

I don't understand it either. You literally just have to google "Scholorships for [insert majority white country] Americans" to finds hoards of scholarships for what is essentially white Americans. They just believe what they read on Reddit. They don't even take two seconds to google anything about it, as is with most things they whine about.

    Plus you actually have to do shit for a scholarship. It's not enough just to turn up to school, not study and get ok grades you have to work in the community, play sports and other things. Somehow I doubt that the type of people complaining about scholarships on reddit are these types of people. It's much easier to say of course I won't get a scholarship I'm white rather than saying I'm a sack of shit who has done nothing but still want my handout.

    It's not hypocrisy. Those scholarships exist for a reason, namely an institutionalized bias against certain genders and ethnicities.

    I don't get it. You have scholarship for just about anything. I can get several just for existing. One for Irish ancestry, probably one for German as well, one for being a lefty, one for having an ancestor who fought for the Union. Then you can get more for writing essays, I know the Ayn Rand foundation has one if you can convince them you worship Ayn Rand.
