The "this subreddit is banned" page now specifies that it was for doxxing. Hardly surprising given the amount of personal information they passed around, but it shows that it wasn't banned for just being a bunch of unrepentant Nazi fucks.

Every time they do this it only gets worse. They just ban one sub for the symbolism now and then so they can look like they're trying to do something.

This won't and shouldn't change reddit's SLPC evaluation, which is probably too mild to start with.

Definitely. The site is still largely a cesspit, and the admins clearly aren't willing to actually take a stand against bigotry. We won't have to wait long before an alternative subreddit pops up and starts doing the same things.

But, it's a petty "victory" that makes me smile at lunch break.

This is the moral equivalent of going into the heart of Nazi Germany and shutting down a popular cafe.

some people think this symbolizes something important and positive.

If symbolism matters then what this symbolizes is that they will continue to make these token efforts while doing nothing to stop the site from being commandeered as a propaganda outlet for the far right.

So yes, symbolism matters, but in this case it's in a bad way.
