Multiple subreddits with <5k subscribers are managing to reach /r/all top 100. All of them are anti-Trump, and no anti-Trump subreddit managed to do the same. (self.subredditcancer)

At the present moment, these are the only submissions from subreddits with fewer than 5000 subscribers on the /r/all top 100:

n. 6 on the frontpage, 4373 subscribers

n. 9, 4829 subscribers

n. 31, 4176 subscribers

n. 91, 1136 subscribers

A few simple questions:

  • each of these submissions recieved more upvotes than there are subscribers in the subreddit, in some cases over 3x as many (accounting for the fact that they're ~75% upvoted); that's perfectly possible once you reach /r/all and external votes star pouring in, but how did they reach /r/all in the first place?

  • even allowing that it might happen by a stroke of luck or sudden spike in popularity (for example, thanks to a large subreddit linking to them), how did that happen 4 times in 4 hours (the time difference between the youngest and oldest submission) to 4 different subreddits, all coincidentally belonging to the same galaxy of anti-Trump subs?

  • the /r/all algorithm was changed so that multiple popular submissions from a single subreddit are penalized while individual submissions from less popular subreddits are boosted: is there an organized effort to flood /r/all by spreading anti-Trump content over many smaller subreddits? and, if so, who is organizing it?

That 4 different ones, all coincidentally anti-Trump, managed to do it within 4 hours of each other strongly indicates an organized effort to upvote those threads.

I honestly dont mind that so much as that they are clearly coordinating to ruin organic subs, too. like rick and morty sub pretty much never hit front page... until anti-trump memes. despite the rules strongly and clearly stating no political posts at all. I remember simply commenting "rule 6" on quite a few posts, to be met with -10+ karma in a matter of 5 minutes (as if it ever had that sort of traffic when it wasn't being brigaded).

  1. There is a lot of difference between trumpget, impeachtrump, trumpforprison. They're run by mostly different people, started at different times, are about different things. Why should fucking Trump supporters be allowed to spread their tentacles everywhere (/r/conspiracy, /r/subredditcancer, /r/undelete, /r/wikileaks, /r/H4P, KiA, TiA, /r/conservative) but anti-Trump subs can't? What kind of logic is that? There are different anti-Trump subs for the same reason there are different Trump subs - people can create communities easily.

  2. Even assuming you disregard #1, there are enough "clones" of T_D: save_brendan, the_brendan, the_dennis, the_schulz etc which are all massive circlejerks around one man like T_D is. These communities that jerk around one person are not really different

  3. Have you ever heard of the bandwagoning effect? People submit something > It gets upvoted initially > It goes to some sub #300 level /r/all rank > Gets upvoted more and more and more until It makes it to top 20 /r/all.

I can guess with reasonable confidence that this (420p, 2 hours ago), or this will make it into the top 50 of /r/all at least. You know why? It's because they have a high number of upvotes in a short period of time.

Which is the same thing that happened to these anti-trump subs. Its the basic philosophy behind /r/all, if something is popular enough within the sub and the sub itself doesn't feature too much on /r/all then that post will make it to /r/all. Variables in this include the rate of getting votes (votes/time), and how well posts from other subs are doing.

  1. And one of the ways communities gain subscribers is by featuring on /r/all, and these subscribers will upvote everything in the sub and the cycle continues.

You're fucking whining because its happening in a manner that displeases you. Fucking trumptards are happy as long as /r/all is windowdressed to their liking, but god forbid there's some blowback.
