Beltway sniper is close enough to an Islamic Terrorist attack. He threw it out there when in custody, but he was not all that coherent.

Beltway sniper wanted to kill his ex-wife but knew it would be to obvious so he killed a bunch of other people first to make it look like she was just another target of a crazy person. I watched a documentary about this on Investigation Discovery the other day trust me.
