Conservatives treat “Homeless veterans” like the task you leave undone at work so you can get indignant when your boss asks you for something. “Send you the TPS reports? Ugh. Um. I haven’t even gotten to the homeless veterans!”

They act like it’s a convenient little “get out having no empathy card” they can pull out anytime people suggest caring for a group that’s desolate and hurting. Like we buy the line of bullshit.

“Yes! We should take care of veterans. Unfortunately the Republicans you voted for keep blocking those bills. We’ve been trying! What do you suggest we do to stay politically active? Are you protesting for better VA hospitals? Are you calling your senators to pressure them on legislation that-

It’s a bullshit notion. It’s like refusing to save a puppy before it falls off a bridge. And then someone goes “oh god there’s also a kitten about to fall off the bridge” and then you go “well honestly we gotta focus on saving the puppies that are falling off the bridges first”
