Mourinho's team news update for Hull clash

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed Eric Bailly is fit and available for selection ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League encounter at home to Hull City.

Bailly returned to club action for the Reserves against Everton on Monday, playing for almost an hour before being substituted as a precaution following a slight knock on his ankle.

The centre-back had been away with Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations but returned to the Aon Training Complex following the holders' surprise exit in the group stages.

Mourinho revealed at his pre-match press conference that the 22-year-old was fit and in line to make his first senior Reds appearance in 2017, before offering further clues as to who will face the Tigers.

“We always play a full-strength team,” he informed reporters at the Aon Training Complex. “It depends on the way you look at it but we always try to have a strong team.

“Of course, we had some players that didn’t play the last match [against Wigan], some players with a lot of matches played already – people like Valencia, Ibra, Pogba. Some of these players with lot of matches didn’t play but will play tomorrow.”

United face Hull for the second time in six days but, while the Reds were still able to progress to the EFL Cup final with a defeat at the KCOM Stadium last week, only one result will do for Mourinho on Wednesday.

“The last time we played them, even a defeat would be a good result – even if we lost the match by one goal difference, it would give us a final,” the manager said.

“Tomorrow, only three points is a good result for us. If we don’t win, it’s really bad because we need to win matches – that’s the big difference. We need to win the match.”
