Are you on about the Wigan game? If you are he was pretty poor, got himself in some good positions but wasn't switched on and looked dis-interested at times. Not sure if the cameras showed it or not but Rooney, Rojo and Smalling all bollocked him on separate occasions. He had a better second half and I think some of it can be put down to not having played in so long. Hopefully he can kick on and achieve his potential under Mou but he'll need to improve a lot from that performance.

Yeah I saw Rooney give him a talking to for not overlapping. What did Rojo and Smalling do? He just looked low on confidence I think.

Rojo had a go at him for not being where he was supposed to be in defence, he had to cover for him far too many times. He also had a go at Martial i think for not helping out, Martial was off screen though so i might be wrong.

Yeah you're right, Martial can be awful for tracking back.

My armchair observations are that Shaw was drifting centrally when defending far too often, leaving his wing widely exposed. No idea if he was instructed to do so and someone else was meant to be tracking back or if he was just being drawn to the ball.

He was pretty much playing at RB on two occasions that I noted, although one of these he was sticking with his man so you'd have expected someone to slot in for him/Rojo to cover. He did seem to follow the ball a bit too much but I wouldn't read too much into that, it's more than likely just his lack of match practise.

Yeah, it's hard to be critical of him because of what he has had to endure. His performance was ok. He just needs to overcome this block that prevents him from gallivanting forward. With every game hopefully he can start to feel more and more like his old self.

Yeah well said. But that 1 run he did was really promising, hope he can do more of that.

I think he was average. As you say, sometimes he appeared low of confidence, but I don't think he fell through.

He didn't have much to look after in defence, so I'd like him to attack more down that left flank. Remember Wigan is in the bottom of the Championship, so he should be able to cause them more trouble than he did.

Fortunately for him, left back is perhaps the easiest position to break into the starting eleven, so he might be able to win back his spot even before he finds the level from August last year.

I like it when he roams a bit with the ball going forward but defensively he played half the match in every position but his own, even popped up over at right back a couple of times.

Grew into the game offensively, but defensively he was atrocious. He was all over the place when Wigan were attacking us. Which is why I still think Rojo was easily in the top 3 best performers of last match, he was playing LCB and LB defensively.

Rojo does this often, whether covering Blinds lack of pace or Darmian being poor at LB, I'd guess having experience playing there even though he wasn't very good helps a great deal, imo Bailly, Smalling and Jones are all better CBs but none are as good as him at LCB.

With the potential he has, and the lack of good LBs in the team, he should be given a run of games to see if he can find some form.

He cant be that much worse than our options at current, and he certainly can do better.

Very poor. A bit of a mess defensively and made like 2 offensive runs that resulted in him giving it away anyway. He looked very hesitant to commit Wigans players, maybe he's not mentally past his injury yet. Hopefully he takes Tony V as an example.
