I think everyone that's ever been in a choir can relate to the laughter after those two sopranos go all-in on the high note.

Were they not supposed to do that? Did sound kind of off...

[–]failing_forwards [スコア非表示]  (4子コメント)

Oh, it's just a common joke that sopranos will "over-sing" parts that put them in the spotlight :p

Ahhh I was a soprano in all-state choir. Some true divas. But cutthroat and talented nonetheless.

The single octave part is normal, but a few people went up 2 and overextended a little bit. That's probably what they were laughing at.

They were trying to one up by adding an extra 3rd on top of the octave. A little more flat than it should be. Probably one or two of them tried to do it, but the volume they had to do it was louder than expected.

Yeah they added the tonic and the third above it. The original tune has "free" on the fifth. Most sopranos add the root on the top. Some got cute and added the third above that.

Never option up on the option up. Even if you own it, you look like a douche, and if you can't quite get it, you just look sad.

My god, I had goosebumps the whole video.

It's not even my national anthem and I felt it. Love frisson so much. Beautiful.

Canadian here, I openly admit that the yanks have a much better anthem than us.

Ya dude wtf are you saying, our national anthem is awesome in Canada.

At least your anthem is about Canada. In ours we claim we have German blood and honor the king of Spain. I'm from neither of those countries.

Is there another subreddit for videos like this one? Like choir or group singing giving goosebumps. /r/frisson is not really what I am looking for. These videos just share such good feelings.

I don't know about a subreddit, but this video is another good one https://youtu.be/AGRfJ6-qkr4

With all the dark forces at work in this country, I needed to hear this today. Thanks.

I feel like this is the best video of a massive choir gathering.

I do also think however, that the story behind this video needs to be shared aswell.

It's about Zach Sobiech, a-17-year old diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. With only months to live, Zach turned to music to say goodbye. More can be learned about Zach Sobiech here.

[–]Fisted_by_a_Midget [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

National anthems just sound better when sung by a large group of people, and yet every year we (the non-americans that watch nfl) have to mute the television when some singer tries to their version of it before the Superbowl....

Trust me, most of us do it too. The special snowflakes that try to do their own shitty rendition of it irritate people to no end.

I'm actually more irritated by people who shit on other people for showing patriotism. Who the fuck are you? Rhetorical.

The American national anthem is SUPPOSED to be sung by a group of people. WHAT ELSE IS IT FOR? LOOK AT ME I AM MY COUNTRY?! No. It's meant for the masses. It's meant for the public, all of the people. You may have a leader, but they are never supposed to be performing for you. It's a fucking solemn song. When people applaud, you applaud for the ones who sang it. But you should never applaud the fact that it is done or for 'merica.

It sounds better for a group because it is designed to be. I don't get why people just listen. You should be singing along you fuck.

That said, never demonize people who do not participate in patriotic functions. That would be against the guiding principle of the country.

That saxophonist for the ATL/GB game was pretty great

[–]Drunken_Economist [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

You can't really get a stadium to sing together, unfortunately. The time it takes sound to reach one end to other means it is slightly out of sync and sounds awful

I tend to agree but I give Whitney Houston's 1991 Superbowl performance as a counter-example. I was 12 when this happened and remember the backdrop of Operation Desert Storm just starting. I still shed a red, white, and blue tear whenever I hear it.

I think this is the Louisville Hyatt! Greatest hotel staff I have ever met

[–]Chaere [

Holy crap the talent it takes to minimize phasing when the performers are that far apart is nuts. The only time you could really tell was the termination of the "t" and "s" sounds, especially at the end of phrases. I don't think many people can appreciate how epic this is.

This is what the NFL needs at the super bowl. Not these egotistical singers who need to make the national anthem "their own".

Yes. I can't stand it when people totally butcher the national anthem and turn it into some extremely slow dirge and add unnecessary notes. Just sing it the way it's supposed to be. If it was up to me, every NFL game would have a giant marching band playing it along with a massive choir of 500 singers singing. Everyone in the audience would be encouraged to sing too.

Wow I imagine the acoustics are awesome and to replicate this with speakers you would need to set it up as to have the speakers synchronized so no delay is being introduced. It's a nice experiment and I can't help but wonder what Bjork would for this configuration.

It's a state choir with an amazing acoustic atmosphere. My state choir was in a stadium and didn't need speakers. I would have killed for this location.

Hyatt Louisville, a pretty nice hotel. I left my teddy bear in a hotel room there (smoking to non-smoking room switch) and they laundered it for me and put it on the new bed. The omlette chef also yelled at us (me and a bunch of other people my age) for riding the escalators in the lobby.

Also, one of the elevators was broken so they let us access the maintenance elevators, and so of course my brother and some of the other gymnastics brothers explored the hotel, and wound up on the roof. We debated going out but wernt sure the door would open from the outside. It was pretty neat.

What? This is when you need to be the most patriotic. And remember that even though you might not like things right now that this is still the greatest country in the world... Part of being patriotic is standing up for what you feel to be the right thing, use that emotion your feeling to make sure you vote and such.

I love this, and there's a bunch from over the years. My favorite version is this one though. There's a slight pause followed by a deep voice reaching out and starting it all. From best guess, they sing it almost dirge-like so it's easy for such a massive group of strangers to keep timing. The effect is awesome. Gives me absolute chills every view.

[–]Mysterious_Andy [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

It's not to keep the timing, though that does get tough in such a huge space.

It's to let the reverberations die down so you aren't clashing with the echoes of the notes you sang a second or 3 ago.

Ah, that makes sense! I have noticed notes clashing in other videos like this, but usually assume its the location the person is filming relative to singers.

Patriotism doesn't involve politics. Or at least, it doesn't have to. Personally, I'm terrified with what is happening in my country, and of this madman and his cabinet that somehow got elected into office. However, I am still as patriotic as ever. I am patriotic for my friends, for my family, for my fellow countrymen/women. I still believe in what this country was founded on, and what it stands for. Even if a lot of that has been ruined or destroyed by current political situations. This is an absolutely beautiful show, no matter what, that some of us that are still undivided will work together. I'm going off on a tangent here...but I cannot believe the ignorant short sighted-ness of some of these comments.

We've gone through much worse. If our predecessors had simply given up then, we would still be much worse off. If the anthem is about anything, it's about perseverance.

Patriotism is the thing that combines everyone, brings them together. It is a pillar of multiculturalism (when done correctly, not as it is now), and a pillar of a free market on the international stage. Politics has nothing to do with it, we are all patriotic of our country, we wish it to succeed. Politics only comes into it when two forces believe their methods will create the better system we all strive for

[–]yes_thats_right [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

If people are willing to sacrifice their country for their own personal gain then that is not patriotic. There are some people, currently running this government, who will very happily deny climate change so that they can pump oil, remove sanctions, so that others can trade oil, open up oil pipelines, keep their oil trading friends exempt from immigration bans, place CEOs of oil companies into their cabinet etc, all so that they can make money for themselves. There is nothing patriotic about how the country is currently being run.

That's what patriotism was, now its buying a flag to put on your truck.

[–]Cornelius_Poindexter 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (1子コメント)

Sorry, but all the noble singing in the world means nothing if you become a country of haters.

Make America Great Again is a trick catchphrase. America IS a great place, with lots to be proud of - dont throw that away by listening to ànd acting on the muddled thoughts of an ageing idiot.
