I hear North Korea is a democracy, just like China is a "People's Republic."

[–]natermer 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (1子コメント)

North Korea is a Representational Constitutional Republic. They have a constitution, set of protected rights. They have elections, voting, and representatives. They have a executive branch, legislative body, and judicial branch. They have a 'Central Court' that is the highest apex of appeals and ultimate authority in court matters.

Just like China. Just like France. Just like Germany. Just like USA. Just like Russia.

The major substantial difference in the model of government between a place like China or North Korea versus the USA is that they have one political party that rules all decisions made by government were as the USA has two.

Two is the number of freedom.

Just having one choice means that you have a totalitarian government, but if you have 2 choices then that means your government is the bastion of freedom and independence and accountability.

I was completely unaware of this

Im a german - i hear all the time from uneducated americans that hitler was a socialist. Im glad to see someone posted a quote showing hitler his damn self admitting his politics had nothing to do with marxian socialism. Modern germany is more marxist than hitler EVER was....

Hoppe has a talk about this. The national socialists were a divided bunch - some more hardcore socialistic/communistic, and others almost free market liberals. Hitler at least for the first 5 or 6 years was a rather limited government type - much more so than FDR (which explains why the German economy was much stronger during the 30s than the American economy). The massive socialistic / state apparatus with price controls etc. was largely a product of the war, and during the war Hitler became increasingly dictatorial about all aspects of life in the third reich.

Nazi political theories was whatever Hitler and the party said it was.

It changed over time.

The 'economic miracle' was paid for by massive debt and massive government projects. Hilter had no choice but to start the war if he wanted to stay in power because the country was on brink of complete collapse. Increasing totalitarian control was a attempt to keep it spiralling out of control.

edit:

Nazis did this by essentially issuing 'IOU's for public service. They broke away 100% from the gold standard and instead used a voucher program based on a sort of 'receipt of labor'. This gave German government unlimited ability to 'print money', but it resisted runaway inflation (which plagued the preceding government) for a time period by restricting the production of money to labour and goods through bureaucratic controls.

This is similar to the 'economic miracle' that Mussolini was able to perform in Italy. Mussolini was able to drop the Italian national debt to nothing while at the same time instituting massive public works programs that revitalized the Italian economy and raised the GDP. He was a international marvel. How this scam worked was pretty simple: If you were a contractor going out to build a road or something they would set up the contracts so that none of the money had to be paid when the job was completed, but at some later date. The government promised people so much money they didn't mind waiting for payments.

In a few years, of course, Italian economy went to shit and Mussolini raised the national debt to massive levels.

Hilter's 'miracle' lasted a bit longer because he divorced his country from the international banking cartel and thus avoided much of 'national debt' in the traditional sense. International trade was based on a barter system.

Still went to shit, of course.

I "learned" that in grade school as well. The trouble is, and I'm not an economic historian, but I'm not sure that it's true. Certainly there was a fair amount of military spending, and infrastructure (the autobahns being the prime example), but there was much less military spending that we learned in school, in 1938 during the annexation of Austria for example, I read a anecdotal story about the Germans flying the same squad of planes over and over, but repainting them with new colors between flights to make it seem like the Luftwaffe was in better shape than it was. When the war broke out, the navy was using outdated ships. Armamentation really only ramped up once the war began.

German industrialization, however, did grow dramatically. Germany was a leading exporter for all kinds of manufactured products. They did suffer somewhat due to the depression in the late 30s, and began growing their protectionist policies and become more classically socialist during that time and into the war.

The wars wasn't necessarily to save the economy. The goal was to maintain control.

Also what about eliminating gold standard, massive works programs, and 'labor treasury notes' isn't classically socialist? Hitlers socialist programs started pretty much immediately.

Massive spending and regulation does actually work to boost the economy.... Temporarily. Hitler was just a better socialist then FDR was. Much more committed.

I'm no expert on the details, but fiat wasn't first introduced in the third Reich, certainly the Weimar republic had it (runaway inflation), and it was used to finance the first world war. So the Nazis repudiated the ridiculous war debt and introduced a new fiat. This was not a huge change in monetary policy per se.

I might be inclined to believe this if I didn't constantly run into white supremacists who use the phrases "proletariat" and "bourgeoisie" while arguing that we need a strong centralized government to enforce cultural norms.

National socialism will never be allowed to happen again

But it's already happening. Golden Dawn, who only thinly veils their National Socialist ideology to not get trashed by the public, is the third largest party in Greece and is likely to grow larger thanks to the failures of SYRIZA.

Need I mention "social nationalism" and "National Bolshevism?"
