It's sad that I have to post this here. I really thought the mods were fascist enablers...
Fascism is a toxic and violent ideology. And allowing it to flousish by letting it fester unabated is exactly how structural violence is propagated against the very people fascists want to attack.
Inaction, as in anything that doesn't
directly diminish the capacity of fascist organizing
is ineffectual at defeating fascism in the long term.
Liberal nonviolence hinges on the idea that mass appeal of peaceful idealism will encourage people to act nonviolently on one side and have a change of heart on the other. But it never happens that way with fascists. It will always be assymetrical because fascists don't care about your ethics. Period. And if they did, they'd encourage it only because it leaves you to do busywork that has little impact on their activies. Voices of dissent and Quaker bikelocks are only going to give bigot cops overtime pay. It won't affect fascists at all. In fact the opposite is true. If fascists see that the municipality is willing to spend so much to defend their "free speech", it will embolden them. And if you're not willing to defend anything but your own free speech, then you have affected no change at all.
Pacifists are mistaken in thinking that popular support of antifascism is enough to turn the tide. The people, whether they agree with your tactics or not, aren't important against resources and capital from the other side. Pacifists who plan street actions and blockades only result in making fascists late, and the (capitalist) liberals who plan alternative activities, and who draw the most people, are the exact people who feign ignorance and display righteous indignity when questioned about the popularization of fascist organizations in the face of the hegemonic nonviolece model (kinda like what you're doing now).
The reality is nonviolence and pacifism does not affect the structural violence that fascists are able to implement
because they're left free to continue to do it.
Structural violence is
still violence. These fascist are part of the community. They are actively redlining minorities and denying them bank loans, raising their rents, gentrifying their neighborhood, killing them as cops, infringing on their voting rights, degrading their labor rights, and it all amounts to a lesser standard of living, with lesser resources and provides less opportunities, meager health and an early grave. POC, LGBTQA, Women, Immigrants, Disabled Persons & those who are neuroatypical are all at risk
right now
from fascists and simply reinforcing liberal inaction isn't going to change any of that. Inaction from you allows them to be violent without obstruction. And that will ultimately affect millions of people, living in fear of violence against them or actually being accosted, raped, beaten, denied agency, humiliated, jailed, tortured, ostrisized, deported, omitted, or anything else that tells minorities that their life isn't theirs to control. Violence against fascists is always in self defense
in light of this. Your argument that we shouldn't outright attack them in favor of some perfect ideal leads to more violence perpetrated by the same fascistic ilk that you refuse to confront.
