Petition for Trump’s tax returns just broke the record for most signatures ever

A whitehouse.gov petition for President Trump to release his tax returns has already received more signatures than any other petition in the program’s history.

The petition, titled “Immediately release Donald Trump’s full tax returns, with all information needed to verify emoluments clause compliance,” has garnered over 370,000 signatures in less than a week. The previous record was held by a petition to label the Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group and to remove its tax-exempt status, at approx. 367,000 signatures.

This comes just a few days after Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway said that Trump would never release his returns because “people didn’t care.”

Before winning the election, Trump told voters that he was unable to release his tax returns because he was under audit, even though being under audit does not prevent you from doing so.

Donald Trump is the first President to have failed to release his tax returns since 1976.
