This is a thought I have had the last few days after seeing what a fucking debacle Trump is. Far worse than I could have ever imagined.

What if we encouraged a decent Republican to run against him in the 2020 Republican primary. Typically the incumbent doesn't have any opponents in the primary but I think we should change that. We get someone decent and viable and basically through petition or some other means tell this person that the Democratic voting base will support a Republican candidate in the primary as long as that person isn't Trump. Once the primaries are over all bets are off and it is business as usual for the general election.

My idea of who that person should be is Mitt Romney.

Even though people may disagree with Mitt on issues he is a reasonable man and he country will at least start actually discourse again.

Is this something that is even remotely feasible?

Evan McMullin is really pulling away in the race here in a fairly bipartisan way. Mitt is pretty tainted.

The name itself is secondary to the idea that someone should spearhead a movement to knock Donald Trump out of the 2020 election in the Primaries but pledging a large block of Democratic re-registered votes.

My bet isn't off for a full on Democratic Phoenix rise and ultimately I will vote for whomever I think is best for America and who aligns with my vision and values. I can't say that I as a Democrat would openly support a GOPer because I might not. Selling out just to get Trump out, which completely understandable, is reactionary and we need to be proactive.
