i think we should allow articles that promote discussion, like this one: http://statsbomb.com/2017/01/memphis-depay-why-it-hasnt-worked-out-at-man-united/

but things like top 10 goals or best de gea saves, from users who don't contribute shouldn't be allowed.

I don't think posting a link to an article written by yourself when you don't frequent the subreddit is done to create discussion.

If you actually wanted discussion, that's what self-posts are for. If you're an active member of the sub and stumble across this why not, but to write it, submit it, then fuck off once it's posted isn't done to generate anything but clicks to your site.

i ment that the article can create discussion , not that the poster did it for sake of it.

and if it does and the article is informative, so maybe don't delete it

That's the point of the post though. If it's being posted for self-promotion alone, but the actual post is informative or good content, should it stand? They're promoting themselves and using us for clicks but the content itself aint that bad.

I disagree, sometimes it's nice to see old compilation videos, i think it's more a matter of intent from the user, if they're here to discuss the material they post, and it's not a repost of the same shit we see all the time, then let them stay, if they just post it and fuck off to soccer to post it there, then yeh, get shut in my book.

I think the rule of self promotion is good as it is. This is a community of users, so people who post here should be users as well. What /u/MrStephenHowson does is self promotion, but he also comments on other threads, and responds to questions on his own content. I don't have a problem with that. Video's of press conferences are interesting, but there'll be users who post that content as well. If you want to make sure that your own version is posted on /r/reddevils make it a point to be somewhat active here. Make a summary of the most important quotes in a comment for example.

The reddit 10% rule is a great rule of thumb.

If self-promotion is under 10% of a users contribution then it's allowed, if not then get rid

It really irks me when people contribute nothing and just spam their sites/videos across multiple subs. If the primary account isn't contributing a decent amount on a regular basis then they should be removed/banned.

If users who regularly contribute are then posting the videos further down the line then, imo, the content needs to be relevant or to be removed. As mentioned on another comment, the stuff like "10 De Gea saves" being posted randomly on a Tuesday morning really doesn't contribute anything and looks like it is often being done just to garner upvotes.

EDIT - I appreciate the last bit might be a little more difficult to police.

Posts like '10 de Gea saves' would be removed if it's just someone pushing their YT channel. But an account posting TV interviews in the build up to a game, or press conferences shortly afterwards are doing the exact same thing, but less people seem to care, creating the double standard in the rule.

I've actually thought a lot about this. I really like watching the press conferences and have at times found very small Youtube channels that post it through this subreddit. I feel a little dirty for giving them views, but I also really want the content.

Could we perhaps create some sort of an "official" channel that posts press conferences?

I know I'm a low poster, I lurk a lot. Sorry!

I find it funny that Howson has caught on and posts about 5 posts around the time he wants to promote his next video and then disappears until the next one is out.

I dont think we should allow any of them to be self posted. If someone from the sub finds it, thinks its interesting and posts it then fine. If its quite clearly either a upload bot or a person just uploading his videos then hes trying to force discussion on his videos and it shouldnt be allowed.

Its the exact same reason we have the tier system. You dont see Ducker or Ogden posting their own content on here, we know its (generally) reliable so we go and get it.

I agree with you completely I just wanted to get the opinions of others. I don't like removing a video that has 10-20 upvotes but it's posted by a guy/robot who has posted 10 videos in the past 3 days across different subreddits.

how about something like a pinned comment in the post match thread saying to put the interviews and analysis here?

i come here a lot for those kind of videos, but can understand the mods point of view here too.

so i feel like that would be a good solution.

I'd love to sticky a interview/analysis thread, but we're only allowed 2 at a time and they're almost always occupied.

Build an electronic wall and make those YouTubers pay for it!

For me it's 30 seconds worth of reviewing whether they're an active member or not, if they partake in discussion and this is shown in their comment history, let is stand, if only the video hasn't been posted in the last 24 hours or so maybe.

All the others can do one for all I care, there's nothing I hate more, I mean personally, if they're press interviews and things like that especially (if they're reposts), i'd say remove them, especially considering YT users like Beanyman pays for his right to use the material, so people ripping them are cashing in on the investment others have made, and that fucks me off.

I'm a cameraman, i'd hate for someone to obtain my footage to sell for themselves.

[–]D1794Viva Ronaldo[S] 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

I review most people who post them and a vast majority are just posting video after video. No comments at all.

They're mainly just pulled from Sky Sports or BT Sport so it's not ripping anyone off except the big boy broadcasters.

If the primary point of them posting is self-promotion, let's fuck it off.

However, I have no problem with people positing genuinely interesting content.

If someone posts an HD video of a full pre- or post-match press conference, for example, I couldn't care less whether or not it's branded.

[–]D1794Viva Ronaldo[S] 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Their primary point is self-promotion. A lot of the accounts spam their videos across many different subreddits. They don't even comment anything. but sometimes that spam is an interview etc etc.
