Self-promotion without contribution - A 'double standard' discussion (self.reddevils)

Hi guys,

It's a rule on this sub that we don't allow people to spam their blog, YT channel, podcast, etc etc, without being an active member of /r/reddevils. We aren't robots you can use to gain clicks. Either join in with our other posts or you're not allowed to post your stuff. Most self-promotion gets downvoted anyway as it's easily recognized as such.

However, we've had many, many accounts recently promoting just their Youtube channel, and the videos they post are interviews, press conferences, TV discussions, etc. They get upvoted, but they're doing the exact same thing as the people spamming their blogs. They're just using us for clicks and attention.

What do you want to see allowed? It's basically creating a '1 rule for one, 1 rule for another' scenario if we let them stand and we'd like to be fair to everyone who wants to promote themselves. I personally don't like letting them stand, but seeing the upvotes i'd like to put it up to discussion. All videos do get to the sub eventually from active users, but slightly easier obtainable if we let them slide.

If the primary point of them posting is self-promotion, let's fuck it off.

However, I have no problem with people positing genuinely interesting content.

If someone posts an HD video of a full pre- or post-match press conference, for example, I couldn't care less whether or not it's branded.

Their primary point is self-promotion. A lot of the accounts spam their videos across many different subreddits. They don't even comment anything. but sometimes that spam is an interview etc etc.

i think we should allow articles that promote discussion, like this one: http://statsbomb.com/2017/01/memphis-depay-why-it-hasnt-worked-out-at-man-united/

but things like top 10 goals or best de gea saves, from users who don't contribute shouldn't be allowed.

I don't think posting a link to an article written by yourself when you don't frequent the subreddit is done to create discussion.

If you actually wanted discussion, that's what self-posts are for. If you're an active member of the sub and stumble across this why not, but to write it, submit it, then fuck off once it's posted isn't done to generate anything but clicks to your site.
