95% of which are roadside bandits.

Actually of "named" NPCs, as in not generic ones like Guards or Bandits there are about 780. In the city of Solitude there is about 120. There needs to be way more though, at least of more generic characters just build the place up to look actually lived in. Not to mention there are only about 20 houses in the entire apparent Capital city of Skyrim.

Morrowind had more named NPCs than Oblivion and Skyrim combined.

That was one of my biggest gripes with Skyrim.

It felt empty. The 'cities' (if you can call, at most, 12 buildngs a city) were nowhere near big enough and there were, what, like 20 NPCs per settlement, if that?

I mean, jesus, would it have killed them to make the map bigger and to have made more NPCs?

This happens when you develop for multiple platforms. Lowest common denominator and all that.

If you have Skyrim for PC there are mods that fill out the world decently well.

my favorite mods are GTA and witcher 3, also developed for consoles. beth are just not that good.

Well gtav and the witcher 3 were made for the ps4 and xbone, skyrim was made for the ps3 and xbox 360. Also gta has randomly generated npc's, and so does witcher, to some extent.

GTA V was on previous generation consoles as well...

oh shit yeah, you're right. But my point still stands, gta has no permanent npc's with scripted day schedules and shizz.

Witcher 3 came out 4 years after skyrim and was designed for the newer generation of consoles. Not apples to apples. GTA 5 is 2 years after skyrim but also lost graphics in order to accomodate it.

People are quick to forget that Bethesda pioneered a lot of the things modern RPGs utilize. Things like procedural quests and NPCs that actually move. Their games may have more bugs than others, but everyone else has had the advantage of not being first. It wouldn't be hard to argue that almost every Elder Scrolls game was the new gold standard when they released, then everyone made games based on those, but learned from any mistakes.

Also, neither of them offer nearly as much interactivity or enterable structures.

ESO kinda fixed this. Turns out the towns feels a lot bigger when you constantly see people running around doing stuff. That game can almost be played as a straight up single player Elder Scrolls game if you want.

Kinda. Someone spawned around 50-100 imperial and storm cloak soldiers and had them fight in skyrims original engine. The result was a fuck ton of lag and the game couldn't even process every npc some just stood there until enough died for the game to take them on

Shoutout to Mount and Blade for doing group battles and more reasonable numbers well

Shoutouts to Total War for doing battles with quadruple digit amounts of fighters.

i dont think a few hundred people make an army though. in real world scale mount and blade fights are skirmishes at best

And cities had about six houses and twelve inhabitants each.

Tbh i hate that game. I possied the wrong girl 20 times and had to restart. Like there are no decent looking girls other than this one girl from desert thats related the lakham. Edit: people cant take jokes. Of course i love that game. Spent 400 hours defeating others using multiple different ways and different tactics and military tactics that are known to man. I tried genocide, making friends, starting with a nation, double crossing them, starting solo tried polearm, bow, cross bow, throwable. I used all 6 types of weapons. Tried solo( no men) runs and all. I know the game was low budget, so they didnt have the best designers and such. So jesus christ take a joke people. And here i thought gamers knew how to take a sarcasm.

It's ok, I understand sarcasm. Have an upvote.

My edit seems to salty but like im not and i dont blame these people. Through voice sarcasm would have been 100% noticed(i hope) but like... words are dangerous.

So you hate the game because there is only one girl that you like? Never mind the awesome gameplay or the persistent world, you only care about some girl in the saranid sultanate? All to his own i guess, but damn that's really dumb.

Of the recent RPG games only Witcher 2 and 3 do this well.
