Anchors on CNN have had enough. During a speech at the CIA today, Donald Trump insisted that media coverage of the poor attendance at his inauguration was inaccurate and began going after individual reporters by name. He informed the intelligence community that he backs them completely and that the media lied about him not supporting them. (The media did not lie.)

On CNN after the speech, Jim Sciutto expressed shock that Trump could stand in a place that is so meaningful to the CIA, the CIA Memorial Wall in Langley, Virginia, and go on a tangent about media coverage, Fox News, Reince Priebus, and more.

“The truth is, all you needed to hear there was, ‘I’m coming here because of the great sacrifice you made … I’m behind you and I appreciate the work.” There were about a thousand other things in there. I’ll just speak from this point: As a journalist who has covered the intelligence community for a long time, I’m just amazed at that kind of commentary from the President in that spot at this time.”

He went on to say that folks within the CIA community had volunteered to hear Trump speak and those he had spoken to didn’t find the President’s words comforting.

“It was a campaign rally,” said Gloria Borger. “That’s not what you expect at the CIA.”

She commended him for assuring them he was “with [them] one-hundred percent,” but expressed frustration about his tendency to talk more about himself than the people who volunteer to come see him.

She observed, “There may be some people there scratching their heads, asking, ‘Why did you come here? Because politically it was the right thing to do and your staff told you to do it or because its what you believe?'”
