It provides Lefties with the opportunity to go along with the same old mainstream misogyny under cover of cooler-than-thou newspeak. Standing up to male supremacy is difficult and dangerous, spouting more-tolerant-than-thou thought-terminating-cliches that don't challenge power in any meaningful way is easy.

I think people are terrified of facing their own understanding of their own sex and sexuality, their anima/animus.

It's just too baffling for people, and when their dissonance is met with the religious relief of trans ideology, it's a welcome answer to a question they don't really want to ask or think about.

People in the left are just as sexist and homophobic as the right. So you give the left a PC seeming way to express that and they're just so happy to do it! Giving in to patriarchy feels good, it's what we've been socialized to do. Also people in general used to be way more conservative, I don't think that has changed much. It's like trump, here's something new and crazy with a thin veil of breaking the mold so people latch on to because everyone is dissatisfied, even though what they unfortunately don't realize is that it's all the same old shit with a new coat of paint.

was it the Republican party to try to make the left look insane?

I've wondered as well if this was deliberate. Who exactly though? Who is capable of that sort of social engineering? How did they know that a ton of people would swallow this obviously made up bullshit? Was it a test or an experiment? If it didn't work would they have tried to convince the left that pedophilia is ok? I mean they already seem to be doing that frankly. Something is up.

Op, I love you, you are a sister or brother after my own heart.

Think about this: transgender people promise an expensive and reoccurring clientele for the ones who have any sort of financial privilege to afford it. They need more check ups, surgeries, injections, etc. Their own movement is even trying to get transgenderism as defined as a lifestyle choice or identity and nothing to do with gender dysphoria (which wtf), meaning private insurers will no longer cover their treatment (as most require a medical diagnosis to do so).

Also, it enables white males in the left and right to take the stage and invade women's spaces and erase our language.

Finally, it allows the media to generate a returning profit, as much of the media uses gender marketing for their merchendise and to influence ideas.

I would say more, but I just walked into class!

The thing is MTTs have been quietly doing their thing happily for decades. Rich old men with AGP fetishes is nothing new. I think this has more resemblance to the recent reactionary Trump stuff where white - not necessarily working class- men suddenly begin to see themselves as a victimized group. http://nytimes.com/2017/01/17/upshot/republican-men-say-its-a-better-time-to-be-a-woman-than-a-man.html?_r=0&referer=

I also think republicans also needed a new culture war thing after Obergefell. They tried the stupid fake Planned Parenthood videos thing but no one cared since the least anti-choice candidate won anyway.

I think Pat McRory actually lost in NC, where Trump won? Very few people care about women's safety. If they want to effectively mobilize trans for culture war I think people will get much angrier about stuff like MTT serial killers getting free boob jobs in prison with taxpayer money than trans bathrooms. :(

This is probably pushing it but favorite conspiracy is that they needed a way to distract from another 'trans', the TPP. Caitlyn's magazine cover came out around the same week it was going through some key-negotiations to be put on fast-track. If you put it through Google trends around June 2015 'trans pacific partnership' suddenly has significantly less searches than 'transgender'..

Interesting. Especially the "trans" thing. Possible keyword hijacking?

It gives otherwise assholes a chance to be progressive without addressing their bad practices. Like Tim Cook and bill gates can support Trans and appear progressive, and ignore their slave labor overseas and educational stuff in the US, or their collusion with the intelligence community.

All really good questions. It also got me thinking about the SCOTUS decision affirming same sex marriage equality, which happened not long before the trans rights movement suddenly exploded. I wonder if after all those years of no equality for lesbians/gays, the SCOTUS suddenly affirmed same sex marriage as a way of setting the stage, paving the way, for trans rights. Was it planned that way all along? It seems that no sooner did we get LG marriage rights and have a chance to celebrate that, then BAM! we lost the right to female only facilities and Title IX.
