Trump accuses NBC News of spreading fake news
President-elect Donald Trump said Wednesday that NBC News is not giving him the credit he deserves for job-creation announcements from major U.S. and foreign companies.
“Totally biased @NBCNews went out of its way to say that the big announcement from Ford, G.M., Lockheed & others that jobs are coming back to the U.S., but had nothing to do with TRUMP, is more FAKE NEWS,” Trump wrote in a multiple-post flurry on Twitter Wednesday morning. “Ask top CEO's of those companies for real facts. Came back because of me!”

Trump’s Twitter outburst appeared to be a response to an NBC News story headlined “Companies Are Recycling Their Old News to Avoid Being Blasted in a Trump Tweet.” The report outlines how some companies, either eager to get on Trump’s good side or nervous that they might become the subject of his next Twitter outburst, have repackaged old plans as announcements of new jobs.
“No wonder the Today Show on biased @NBC is doing so badly compared to its glorious past. Little credibility!” Trump wrote on Twitter, ending his attack against the network.
Those corporate announcements, repackaged or not, mesh well with Trump’s messaging, that his business acumen will translate into a stronger U.S. economy and a growing job market. Trump campaigned hard on his economic promises during the presidential race, pledging to rebuild America’s base of manufacturing jobs and to punish companies that ship jobs overseas with a 35 percent tariff.
Since winning the presidential election last November, Trump has actively praised car companies like Ford and Fiat Chrysler for announcements of new investments in U.S. manufacturing in Michigan and Ohio. He has also lashed out at General Motors and Toyota for manufacturing in Mexico, although both companies disputed the facts of Trump’s attacks against them.
NBC News did not immediately respond for comment.
