I'm just watching the episode now purely for Alaska, but I must say Carson was phenomenal, I thought his organisation and branding on the task was absolutely fabulous. I've literally never seen an episode of the US version before ( I watch the UK version religiously) but he was by far and away the most impressive contestant there.

[–]OhComets 58 ポイント59 ポイント  (8子コメント)

Totally agreed. I had heard many people say how charming he was and how well he had been doing so far, but after watching this episode I'm considering pirating the season to watch him on it. I have a lot of respect for how he didn't buckle under the pressure of his teammates who were borderline disgusted by the idea of bringing a drag queen on. His victory (because it was more his victory than that of the teams) was well deserved.

I've been pirating the fuck out of it to watch Carson and he's been pulling his weight. There's no guilt in watching it when you aren't contributing to the ratings, nor to any online buzz about the show.

Ever since Arnie clapped back I don't feel too bad about watching it legitimately but streaming is my preferred choice.

[–]Imogens 9 ポイント10 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yeah, that's why I prefer to stream it.

I have no guilt anyway. I'm supporting them and without paying the sponsors they won't be on. I cannot spend the next 4 years pretending like there's only certain products or things that don't contribute to bad shit. I'd have to be Amish to not give money to people I don't like and I'm not that person.

Is it on Hulu or where would someone watch a thing like this?

I don't know, I can't get Hulu in Canada (unless that changed recently and I'm out of the loop) and don't know of any legitimate sources online. I just use a free streaming site (primewire usually)

I gotta say, I was super charmed by Carson (I'm usually just lukewarm on him) and I loved his boldness with the choice. His friend-chemistry with Boy George was really cute too. Total CUNT.

I've ran into him in various clubs either in Vegas or Socal and he has always come across as kind and open - honestly it surprised me how comfortable he was just out in public - kinda cool

I'm glad he's like that. On some shows it seems like there are judges who just like tearing people down and looking down on the little people. Even on Queer Eye he always struck me as someone who genuinely wants to help people be the best that they can be.

I'm enjoying the entire season. The boardroom is empty of its lecherous stank, and the Governor came from nothing and is truly a self-made man. And the fact that Kawasaki said they 'went too far', I find to be a compliment these days, when most everything has already been done.

Rob Has a Podcast, a podcast network for reality TV shows. They started covering RPDR during All-Stars (with a couple of intro episodes for season 8), and one of those guys is on their other Celebrity Apprentice podcast and so he was very knowledgable about Alaska.

I had a little bit of hope that maybe it was just the editing that made all the men look like they did, it's sad how they all just shut down once the idea of a drag queen was brought up. I really want to see what the other guy's on the team have to say about the episode.

[–]DuchessSwanKatya Zamolodchikova 31 ポイント32 ポイント  (0子コメント)

This was super cringe-y to watch how uncomfortable they were about it, kudos to Alaska for serving it even without everyone's support.

[–]18kwhitegold 108 ポイント109 ポイント  (26子コメント)

Go Carson! I really tend to forget that drag isn't mainstream. It's 2017 can we please drop the homophobia that seems to go unnoticed by society? I mean c'mon she has a name and is a human being

[–]SingTheDoomSong 86 ポイント87 ポイント  (21子コメント)

Not just homophobia, there's also the underlying issue that men feel the need to hold onto the normal ideas of masculinity, and that breaking away from those ideas for any reason will somehow make them less of a person. That was also pretty prevalent in this episode too.

[–]Lyco_499What's your vaginal vineyard year? 79 ポイント80 ポイント  (15子コメント)

Which is deeply prevalent with gay men these days too. I don't know if it's the Internet making it more visible, but it seems to be more common than ever before for gay men to make a huge deal about how traditionally masculine they are and distance themselves from femininity of any kind.

Some of the worst, most dehumanising things I've seen said about effeminate men have come from other gay men. I'm definitely in the center of the masc/fem scale but it still hurts to see "my people" shit on others of our kind, who likely face more adversity as it is because they're more visible. I know it's a complex issue, and humanity in general doesn't help but I think there's a point where people have to take ownership of their own behaviour.

I just want everyone to get along...like we did in middle school, and yes, I do go here.

Sorry, the whole thing pisses me off so I can rant way too much about it lol.

[–]SingTheDoomSong 32 ポイント33 ポイント  (1子コメント)

Totally agree, there's a ton of pressure for gay men to label themselves as something. You're either masc or fem, twink or bear, Super Mario Sunshine or Sonic Unleashed, for a community that's been known for being relegated to the side there's a big emphasis on labeling yourself and keeping away from others.

It's something most of us do to, and effeminate men take the brunt of the pressure. We need to learn that we're all in this for the long haul and it's time to acting like a family, goddamn it.

[–]lavender_Alyssa Edwards 28 ポイント29 ポイント  (0子コメント)

I hate to break it to you, but gay men can be just as misogynistic as hetero ones. :(

[–]MissSteakI just feel the way that I feel and that's good enough for me 6 ポイント7 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Its been like that since forever. Drag queens themselves have been ridiculed inside the gay community (it is still happening, I have a lot of gay friends that think drag is disgusting), because they are the embodiment of the effeminization stigma. In order to feel normal, the gays need to distance themselves from that stigma, and drag queens are doing directly the opposite. They are sort of clowns, outcasts inside their own community. Now think what that does to a straight man, who has never had to battle with the effeminate stigma being tackled over him.

I did a paper about drag queens and some literature mentions societies and communities that behaved like this back in the 60's and 70's. The need to identify with the hegemonic idea of a man has always been prevalent (not just among gays, but amongst all the minorities), we just think that its more prevalent now or we just pay more attention to it because there is more people who are out and open about it. Also, homosexuality is slowly being normalized, and you can see all different sorts of gays everywhere!

[–]18kwhitegold 18 ポイント19 ポイント  (4子コメント)

Totally agree! This stereotypical masculinity is such a toxic thing, it's scary to think about. About time we get rid of it. What is almost even scarier is to think that sometimes I forget about that too since I've worked so hard through the years to kinda shield myself from it.

If we don't support shows with LGBT representation and boycott there will be no representation. No you don't want him to make money, I get that but Carson and Boy George are on a national program getting paid by sponsors of that program. Boy George, for you young ones, was bigger than Lee Bowery and for all intents and purposes was the first "drag queen' or "club kid" people knew and is exactly why this show is on and part of the reason why people are out today. George Michaels refused to come out back then. It was gay ass, makeup and dred wearing Boy George singing about gay heartbreak and his lover drummer and had straight people singing along to it. Downvote me to hell but I'm supporting Boy George and Carson and helping them get paid.

[–]ArnoldoBassisti 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Cool. You're willing to also support those who oppose us, as well as other minority groups; for example Trump. Get off your high horse, acting like you're doing anything by supporting a show that has nothing to do with us. I'm willing to admit that I'm not a hypocrite. I pump gay hating Saudi Arabian gas in my car, I eat food that's made by Monsanto, I drink coffee that probably was picked by children, the workers that made my phone only got $1 an hour to build it while I paid $700, I say I love Muslims but the guy I voted for in the last two elections killed more of them than cancer. I don't know how to fix the world, I think its impossible but I will spread love instead of boycotting because I don't think it will work or help.

Hetero mans fragile sense of masculinity is the root of so many problems.. homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, violence etc. It's so restrictive and limiting. It is also quite frankly ridiculous and juvenile. Worryingly it is rapidly seeping into our community with all this masc4masc bullshit.

The part that upset me the most was when the men were talking to Arnold in the boardroom and told him "We had a person in drag, Alaska Thunderfuck" and the women looked over like popular girls at the lunch table. I've only seen the teaser clip where someone was commenting that drag queens are not the target audience for motorcycles and therefore they shouldn't be using Alaska.....that annoyed me so much....

Like, when determining the market is men 18-40 (or whatever it is) that primarily purchases bikes, is there also a line for profession and hobbies? Are they looking at data that says how many doctors or engineers or insert-career-here ride? Can you tell that about a person just by looking at them?

Because as far as I'm aware, a helmet is going to fuck-up your wig, so few queens are going to be riding in full face and hair on their way to a gig in order for you to clock them as they go speeding past. And it's not like they're in drag 24/7 or unable to have any other interests in life, bikes included.

Butt pads are probably great protective gear though.

Get over yourselves insecure straight men.
