This is what got me interested in bitcoin. I like to bet on sports and live in the US. It's so much better than any other option. Even in Vegas I was literally using my btc book so i didnt have to wait in line. Have successfully converted several of my friends as well.

I believe this right now is currently the best use case for bitcoin in the US. If you can teach people that gamble (and there are a metric fuck ton of them) using BTC, you will continue to get more adapters.

2nd best use case being Purse.

(and there are a metric fuck ton of them)

One such metric is very low house edge of bitcoin based gambling games (non-sports) over FIAT gambling. While the general house edge of bitcoin based gambling games is 1%, 0% house edge games like https://www.chain-bet.com is also rising pretty quickly.

What poker players refer to as Black Friday is what led me to discover bitcoin.

Disrupting The Online Gambling Industry

Why play slot machines when you can just throw some money into Bitcoins and have the excitement of watching your money go up and down all by itself!

IMO, this is the killer app right now for the first world.

No joke. I got on nitrogen last night at 11pm and had lost all my money by 11:02. Bitcoin is incredibly efficient for gambling.

Good. Maybe we can get back to the neteller days of easily moving money.

It makes no sense to me that online gambling (with real money) is illegal in The Land of the FreeTM

The US government missed out on a tax-collecting opportunity. When bitcoin becomes more mainstream in gambling, it will be too late for them.

You can gamble in the stock market!

[–]Btchoarder [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Haha. I was going to say that to me "the stock market is like legalized gambling."

gambling is very taboo in the US, even real life gambling is only legal in a handful of states, heavily regulated and only in towns that are pre-authorized by the government.

[–]NimbleBodhi [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

It's not that it's taboo, it's that many states just want to keep their monopoly on gambling via the lottery system and the revenue that comes with it.

Gambling is immoral. Unless the government is involved, then it's fine. Hypocrites.

If gambling was legal, what kind of dunce would play in the state lottto?

Have to increase displace educational funding somehow.

There's a lot of gambling in the UK, the lotto still has a healthy number of players though. I find it incredulous that you can't do such a simple thing in the US, personally I find horse and dog racing to be a bit boring, up until the point you have money on it, then its the most important and best thing in the world.

In fact the government has had to regulate fixed odds machines (mainly roulette) due to the massive amount of money problem gamblers lose on them. Betting on horses and football are still very, very popular, I can remember many years ago my then step dad (like many dads and nans around the country try) pulling out his coupon on a Saturday and just watching the results come in for hours (most games aren't televised).

Ok, agreed.

The US government missed out on a tax-collecting opportunity.

Whut?? So in the land of the free, gambling should be allowed because it's a good excuse to rob people at gunpoint?

The reason Libertarianism never takes off in the US is because of the anarcho-capitalism, "taxation is theft" bullshit.

Meh. I wish they would have mentioned some of the earlier gambling sites/services. That was always a big thing for me with Bitcoin. We didn't have to wait around for some mainstream site or any of the big guys in any service to integrate Bitcoin. We could simply roll our own. Whether you wanted to setup a site to sell socks or gamble, you yourself could do it, and we did.

This is honestly the reason I got into bitcoin. Waiting 4 weeks for a foreign check to arrive and them hoping it clears is no fun.

The US nanny state government controlled by the lobbyists who shove the most steak in their mouths are missing out big time on tax collecting opportunities. The fact that we can't even play poker online is a fucking joke. But Bitcoin to the rescue. It solves the payment processing issues almost perfectly. I've also found that rather than cash out my winnings I let more of it sit in my Bitcoin wallet thus turning me into more of a saver in something other than fiat. Our government is run by fucking imbeciles.

One criticism I have of some online offshore books is that some of them when you do a cash out will take up to a day to process a transaction. You don't lock in your cashout price. So, for example with bookmaker.eu if you request a cashout at 1pm and they don't get to it by 5pm you could be waiting til the next morning. With bookmaker.eu you have no idea what you will actually get. They also will not tell you what exchanges they use. I've always gotten a bit less than I expected. There are no fees, And I can't claim to know that they are doing shady things BUT the time delay in processing can lead to all sorts of fuckery. 5dimes is a bit better with this and faster.

I would love to hear some other suggestions for clear timely payouts in which I wouldn't have to be at the mercy of the btc market fluctuations and possible graft by the sports book.

It's been great for poker. Zero hassle for deposit or cash out on Bodog.
