Other than a few hitches, he's been fantastic in his 'natural' position and has been absolutely key there in relation to assisting and creating space for movement with Herrera and/or Carrick.

Also considering on the left we're weaker offensively with the mysterious exclusion of Shaw, he slots nicely on that side to kind of cover for that, on the right we can rely on Valencia/Mata/Mkhi to do that role, on the left we only have Martial/Rashford and then a questinable hole at LB where any player we use as a fullback here is pretty dreadful at tracking back... Pogba's presence in this scenario holds off attacks somewhat while we adjust to counters in our back line, but this isn't ideal at all because he's absolutely garbage at defending, i'd argue more so than Fellaini on a bad day (EDIT: and i'm saying that as a fan of Fellaini btw), Correct me if im wrong though.

We need Shaw back for some pace, and then we'll reap the full benefits of Paul on the left with some pacey and tricky overlaps with him, Martial and Shaw playing off each other, then Carrick and Herrera can control the pace by holding off a little and playmaking like they have been.

That's what I think.

I don't think so, as for shooting and crossing, its easier to do from the left side if you're right footed. You have a better angle. He's been playing well this season and for most of his career where he is. He looked bad vs Liverpool because they were pressing so aggressively. Remember that Carrick of all people couldn't do anything meaningful with the ball that game

That is definitely personal preference, but generally it is the other way around, its easier to shoot from right to left because that's what way your foots swinging so you can get more power into it, unless you prefer curling shots into the corner, good examples f come from wingers like Young, Robben and Memphis for example, they play on the opposite wing to their foot because they look shooting that way but most will play on the same side as their strong foot.

I'm not sure if you're agreeing with me or not but inverted wingers are used and played that way because its easier to shoot when cutting onto your favoured foot, you have a better angle to aim at.

Sorry but that doesn't make sense. You can get good power regardless of what side of the pitch you're on.

You can but it is generally easier to kick from right to left, as i said, it is down to preference though. I was disagreeing in the most part that it is planly easier to kick from left to right as a right footer, because it is usually the opposite way.

The wingers i mentioned are not common, most do not play that way because it is more comfortable for them to do it the opposite way you said

I know when i played it was far easier for me to drill a shot into the left side of the goal than into the right and i am right footed.

I get your bit about preference as its the opposite way for me. It might just be a preference for Pogba as well

No, there's a big difference between a traditional 'winger' and a modern 'inside-forward'. A winger wants to beat his man on the outside and cross the ball in, so on the right wing you would need to be right footed, whereas a inside forward playing on the RW, expecting to cut inside and get shooting opportunities will need to be left footed.

You will always have more passing and shooting options with the ball on your stronger side, unless you're abnormally good with the outside of your foot (like Veron for example).

Pogba playing towards the left side of midfield means he can play to his strengths, he can see the whole pitch when the balls at his feet and he has a much larger shooting and passing angle, wether he chooses to curl or hit it with power.

Thanks for this, I think you explained it better than I could

Yes i know they play in different ways, i'm not talking about the actual roles themselves. Many kids will come up through the junior leagues doing one or the other based on what they feel comfortable with rather than being forced to play a certain role. It would be different in a much higher level when kids go through their elite training shit at such a young age, but most still end up playing as a traditional winger.

I'm only saying what i am due to experience, playing football for over 10 years, far more people who are right footed tend to prefer playing on the right side of the field

the timing of this obviously insinuates that i think pogba has been playing poorly because of the last game but this is something that I've been thinking about for some time. crossing may be 'easier' but it also takes longer - see darmian playing left back. As with shooting, again if you're coming into the goal from the left its easier on the right foot, but he's not, he's coming from a central position to the left post so for a right foot shot most of the goal is cut off unless he has the time to angle out.
