Is Pogba playing on the wrong side? (self.reddevils)

I think pogba is playing on the wrong side. When he's on the left of that midfield three as he has been for say Juventus, it allows him to take a touch and then bring it on to his right, this opens the game up for him and allows him to dribble but as a by product, he dwells on the ball. Unfortunately he's just not getting that opportunity or time in the PL for that.

If he was on the right he would be forced to play it first time or do something immediately with his first touch with the whole game being open in front of him. It would more importantly mean that his goalscoring opportunities, where his drives in to the box under a lot of immediate pressure - are on his stronger foot shooting across the goal. Currently he is being forced wide and having to either take a weak foot shot or send time to angle his body and curl one round to the far post.

Theres no doubt that Pogba plays best in a three man midfield, but just because he was at his best on the left before doesnt necessarily mean thats where he's best now. I could be talking out my arse though. Thoughts?

I don't think so, as for shooting and crossing, its easier to do from the left side if you're right footed. You have a better angle. He's been playing well this season and for most of his career where he is. He looked bad vs Liverpool because they were pressing so aggressively. Remember that Carrick of all people couldn't do anything meaningful with the ball that game

the timing of this obviously insinuates that i think pogba has been playing poorly because of the last game but this is something that I've been thinking about for some time. crossing may be 'easier' but it also takes longer - see darmian playing left back. As with shooting, again if you're coming into the goal from the left its easier on the right foot, but he's not, he's coming from a central position to the left post so for a right foot shot most of the goal is cut off unless he has the time to angle out.

Other than a few hitches, he's been fantastic in his 'natural' position and has been absolutely key there in relation to assisting and creating space for movement with Herrera and/or Carrick.

Also considering on the left we're weaker offensively with the mysterious exclusion of Shaw, he slots nicely on that side to kind of cover for that, on the right we can rely on Valencia/Mata/Mkhi to do that role, on the left we only have Martial/Rashford and then a questinable hole at LB where any player we use as a fullback here is pretty dreadful at tracking back... Pogba's presence in this scenario holds off attacks somewhat while we adjust to counters in our back line, but this isn't ideal at all because he's absolutely garbage at defending, i'd argue more so than Fellaini on a bad day (EDIT: and i'm saying that as a fan of Fellaini btw), Correct me if im wrong though.

We need Shaw back for some pace, and then we'll reap the full benefits of Paul on the left with some pacey and tricky overlaps with him, Martial and Shaw playing off each other, then Carrick and Herrera can control the pace by holding off a little and playmaking like they have been.
