Hey Imgurians - Like me, a lot of you might have seen this post from 2 - 3 weeks ago.
The post was from an Imgurian, whose sister had recently left Aberdeen, SD and headed to Atlanta, GA to start a new life.
This story really resonated with me for several reasons. I joined the Facebook page dedicated to finding Morgan.
I noticed last night, while attempting to go back to this post for clues, that they had both been deleted.
So, I looked to Reddit for updates instead.
Many commenters offered help and suggestions on things that could be done to help find Morgan. I noticed that most of these tips were never followed-up on, usually just a "Thank You!" was posted.
I went back to the Facebook group to ask what ended up happening with these leads.
I noticed that a new Facebook group had popped up..."Morgan is NOT missing".
The creator of the group is choosing to remain anonymous.
Apparently the creator and most of the members had also joined the Facebook group dedicated to searching for Morgan. However, any time they asked questions about the case, the posts were promptly deleted by the Admin - Morgan's mother, Sherri.
Many of the group members speculated that Sherri was using the Facebook page primarily for donations, NOT for search tips.
An initial GoFundMe page was created, which raised it's total of $5,000.00 so Sherri (and her husband) could go to Atlanta to "find Morgan". Shortly after Sherri arrived in Atlanta, another GoFundMe page sprouted up, this time asking for $10,000.00 - https://www.gofundme.com/missingmorgan
Hmmm. Very strange.
After a lot of deliberation, I didn't know what to conclude. However, I just couldn't fathom why Morgan's mother was not following up on these tips and why she was refusing to release information that might help people in Atlanta find Morgan. And why was she deleting all posts that were not prayers and/or pictures? Then this morning shit hit the fan.
Morgan's best friend, who has been very active in her search, posted this to the Missing Morgan group.
The response from the Missing Morgan group was pretty collective:
1. EXCELLENT - Morgan is okay!
2. How does best friend know for a fact that Morgan is safe?
3. Whoa, wait, where is mom? How long has she known?
4. What the fuck is going on?
Morgan's best friend posted a series of screen shots from a group chat that took place yesterday.
Basically, from Morgan's temporary Facebook page (her friends ask a series of personal questions to verify her identity), she explains that her mother has effectively ruined her life and smeared her name, that they have never had a good relationship and that she is stuck and has no idea how to proceed.
