Elon Musk is a self-aggrandizing billionaire that is only a billionaire because of billions of public dollars sent his way, that abuses and mistreats his workers and takes all of the credit for everything they produce, that spends millions of dollars on a wildly-successful propaganda campaign promising pixie kisses and unicorn farts to a fanatical fanclub.

    Despite its facade of passion for science and higher learning, reddit is actully pretty damn anti-intellectual. Reactionary sentiments are widespread and go unquestioned, and anything redditors feel is a threat to their world view and identity will trigger a disproportionately emotional response.

    Pretty much, yeah. /r/AskHistorians is one of the best subs on reddit, but the fact that it's dominated by questions on military history is pretty telling. Which, to be fair, is very interesting and I'm most certainly guilty of contributing to it myself. But history is so much more than that.

    It's all right, you can be happy for me again in a few days.

    I came back around the time the Electoral College protests were going on, to try to reach a few more people and encourage them to be heard, to try to make the Electoral College perform its originally-intended function (preventing a demagogue from seizing the presidency). It mattered enough to me to do that.

    After a few persistent postings and reminders around the 19th, I'm likely to leave again. I have more obligations again and I admit I was getting sucked in again.

    Hard to turn one's back on bullies, even if they're spineless internet drones that worship a pumpkin-faced geriatric toddler that is tearing the country to pieces before even getting inaugurated in.

    But I'll do just that. Fuck them. It's worth it to refocus my spare time elsewhere.

    Just because many social science experiments cannot be perfectly reproduced the way hard science can doesn't mean social sciences don't produce lots of worthwile studies.

    Widespread use of submachine guns and A7V tanks in Battlefield 1 is a much bigger source of historical inaccuracy than 'more black people than expected'.

    If video games are art, they will (and should) be judged in similar way to other art forms suxh as books and films.

    Yeah that one perplexed me a bit. I'm just not seeing how Mario and company have perpetuated sexist stereotypes. Samus Aran has been a powerful, independent female character since 1986.     I'm surprised there's that much defense of it, mostly because the Metroid fanbase hates it for also just being a shitty game in addition for story reasons. Or was it more "it isn't sexist, it's just a bad game" sort of thing? Either way its so terrible, so so terrible, especially given that that long-standing developer has a history of waifuizing Samus, given that he developed the Zero Suit.

    Yes. That's how I've seen it described, over and over again. Because it'd be SJW/liberal/beta/cuck/whatever to accept that the game was misogynistic. So, they say it has bad gameplay and call it a day.

    Worse, sometimes they say "at least it humanized Samus!" And by humanize, they mean made her into a weeping hormonal mess while all the dudebros did dudebro things in the same game, far from "humanized".

I'm hoping that Nintendo will stop putting Sakamoto in charge of the franchise because of all the negative pushback, but Nintendo doesn't care about Metroid that much and only cre about social issues when it severely impacts their bottom line so I'm not too hopeful.
