I actually liked that they included a photo of his victims on the cover. Yes, it's hard to see their little faces, but it's good to remind everyone just how young and vulnerable 10 is. And that we're talking about a monster.

This isn't the first time that a violent male criminal wanted a sex change to be put in a female prison. The last time I read about this, a bunch of female inmates got beaten and sexually-assaulted.

They should never allow transwomen into women's prisons. Ever. People like this are in prison because they're violent predators. Female criminals don't stand on equal ground with someone like this, even after surgery, so putting him in there would pose them a serious risk.

But, build a trans-only prison and see how that works out. Or, you know, you could just spread false word about it. I bet you if this guy thought he was going to be locked up with a bunch of other transwomen instead of women, he'd change his mind in a heartbeat. And, if not, why not build a trans-only prison? It would be a hell of a lot more appropriate than putting a hyper-aggressive male predator in with a bunch of women.

The Daily Star is far from being a reputable news source. It's a tabloid mess that's renowned for being 99% nonsense and faux-outrage. They are not above paying prisoners for this sort of story so that they have a "source".

Even if true, the UK doesn't normally put trans prisoners in the facility they "identify" with unless they hold a gender recognition certificate ( http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/CBP-7420 ). To obtain one of these you need to have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, or have had surgery to change sexual characteristics, also, you need to have lived in your "acquired gender" for at least six years ( https://www.gov.uk/apply-gender-recognition-certificate/overview ).

Huntley is one of the UK's most notorious and loathed criminals. There is zero chance that they will make concessions for him. It would be political suicide for the party in power.

And as far as GC ideas about where MtT prisoners should be housed, we honestly couldn't have asked for a better piece of propaganda. The trans lobby will have a VERY difficult time defending this one.

That is welcome news and it's good to know that but at the current time with the lobbying they've done to make sure the policy in prisons is crafted to suit these men I wouldn't be so sure that wasn't achievable.

At the very least, they can play the system quite easily to their advantage and there are a few clearly doing that. Everytime I look at these policies, including to do with toilets and changing rooms there never are any limits on them or consideration they could be misused. The idea of limiting e.g. Sex offenders because it is based on self identification is apparently transphobic.

Much more difficult to "play the system" in the UK, at least as far as prison goes... the trans lobby aren't quite as shouty here as in the US.

I'd take anything the Daily Star prints with a pinch (actually, an entire shaker) of salt. If does turn out to be true, however, it will be a massive story here in the UK. I doubt there would be any real chance of him being moved to a women's prison, because the public backlash would be strong and immediate. I can think of very few crimes that received as much attention from the British media as the Soham murders did.

I'm with the other commenters on the lack of reliability of the Daily Star. I'll believe it when it's reported by a more serious news source. The Star makes up scurrilous shit all the time.
