Gender Critical is a subreddit to analyze gender from a critical perspective. We are a radical feminist and women centered community. This is a place to think critically about gender, the erasure of lesbian culture and the appropriation of women's spaces. In short this is a place to discuss radical feminism without fear.
"Women do not decide at some point in adulthood that they would like other people to understand them to be women, because being a woman is not an ‘identity.’ Women’s experience does not resemble that of men who adopt the ‘gender identity’ of being female or being women in any respect. The idea of ‘gender identity’ disappears biology and all the experiences that those with female biology have of being reared in a caste system based on sex." - Sheila Jeffreys, Gender Hurts

DISCUSSION[DISCUSSION] As the transgender narrative gets pushed more on young children, do you think this can affect our birth rates? (Reposted/fixed title :/ ) (self.GenderCritical)

There have been studies that show when these kids go on puberty suppressing drugs it can possibly make them sterile. This narrative is being pushed more and more and more, and the children are only starting their transitions younger. While not more than a couple years ago it was the norm to hear about trans teens, now we are seeing parents raising their children practically from birth. I've seen people claiming their children are trans from the age of 9 months, and starting them on their path to transition as early as humanly possible.
So that begs the question, my question, with this trend exploding as it has been, is it possible that this may affect the birth rates in the more "progressive" countries? What about in Middle Eastern countries where young gay people are forced to choose between dangerous drug and surgery or a terrible death or being permanently disowned? Also, how is the cost of the detransitions going to affect our economy? What about suicide and depression rates (considering trans have a suicide rate of around ~40%)?
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

People who want babies are going to have babies... There are loads of kids out there who have no family, adoption is an option for those who have been sterilized- as horrible as it might be for them to not have their own biological children, they don't have to miss out on parenthood.
That doesn't really address the birth rate thing though.. I really don't think there are enough kids in the population on these drugs yet to see a huge impact in numbers. There are at least 10 million under 14s in the UK. Tavistock, the only place in the UK that sees child patients for gender issues (may be the only one in England not rest of UK, feel free to correct) , got 1400 referrals for under 18s this year. Those numbers are going up really dramatically each year, but it's still only 0.01% of the population at the moment- and hopefully not all of them will be left sterile. That's really not going to have an impact on population growth any time soon.

That's what I've been thinking as well, but the number is only going up, you know? It's also really just something that has been kicking about in my head for a while and I wanted to see what others thought as well.
One of my fears is that there will be so many people wrongfully prescribed these puberty blockers that it will really start to hurt my generation as a whole in some way. Sterility, osteoporosis/bone density, throwing meds and surgery at certain mental illnesses, not allowing young men and women to be "butch" lesbian or "effeminate" gay men w/o first making them do the rounds on meds and therapy.
