Ok I chuckled with that NMS bit. That game is gonna be laughing stock for the ages. It is fitting that it is the polar opposite of Witcher 3. Where everything in NMS is done by algorithms and procedural generation, Witcher series is all handcrafted. And if there is a better example for why handcrafted design beats the alternative, I don't know it.

Handcrafted. Yes. That's the word. I've been watching some "making of witcher" videos from music to combat animations and everything seems so handmade. And it's beautiful. Really makes you connect things to real life and enjoy the game even more so. Witcher 3 made me appreaciate Polish Culture.

Thats why i dont mind a few bugs in the game, they created a huge world with so much detail to everything and its all hand made.

I totally agree, Witcher 3 will go down in history as one of the very best games EVER made. It is difficult to imagine improving on this masterpiece.

Call me crazy... I can think of a way of improving on it. More content!

Yes, we should encourage them to go episodic.

I think it would be awesome to take some adventures from the books and let us play them.

[–]SophisticatedPhallus 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

That would be dope. I want to kill Vilgefortz so bad.

I agree! They created this incredible world and their tech is absolutely cutting edge - they could easily keep making expansions (even standalone ones or episodic as you say) and never look back!

In fact, I find it a little odd that they would effectively abandon the Witcher franchise at it's most promising and exciting stage! Within this world, there are endless possibilities such as going right back to the Conjunction of the Spheres - where everything kicked off - and build a brand new Witcher character and follow him/her all the way from recruitment, through the trial, becoming a real Witcher and beyond....

But they're not doing any of that, are they? It vexes me. I am terribly vexed!

After pondering this statement for a while, I came to the conclusion that you are right!

I've played 'open world' games before and was disappointed with them. Just because there was a big world to wander around it, did not mean it was an entertaining experience. More often than not, I found myself aimlessly wandering, unsure what to do or where to go.

I let them be for a while and switched to games with a more narrow play style. The idea being that it plays more like an interactive movie. (one reason I was skeptical of NMS after announcements. Just exploration? Borin...)

When W3 Came out I did not get it, because of my experience with open world games. I read the reviews, the praise and the experience of people losing hunderds of hours in it. I was intrigued, but did not buy it as I would: a) Be disappointed again b) Get lost in it like others.

Since a baby was on the way, I did not really see B as an option for me. Yet, I got W3 as a birthday present on XBOX and was very happy with it! I played it, got lost in it and after some 9 months completed it, some 125hours later. I was emotionally drained.

The reason it was so special? It wasn't just an open world game. It was a world. A believable world, a world I would not want to live, but could imagine living. A world that breathed, lived and died.

I've read quite a bit of fantasy/SF novels, and world building is hard. So many books did a decent effort, but failed because they did not manage to truly bring the world to life. Too many people in those stories simply joined the big story without a compelling reason.

W3 does very good in that. It shows that everyone has his/her/its own agenda, and you play a part in that. That makes the world real.

Now? I bought it on PC as part of my new PC build and stared the DLC's and plan on doing a NG+ at some time after that. Again, both DLC's add so much detail to the world.

Hand crafted can be something that is crappy, varying on quality or simply not efficient. But I can't deny that something that is hand crafted is something unique and tells a story of its own. W3 feels that way.

We'll probably have way better games in 10-15 years. But yes the witcher will probably be remembered as one of the best games of its generation.

The worst (best?) thing is that I didn't get hooked by the main quest at all, i looooved going through the world, picking sidequests and contracts and listen to all these different stories. I read every little note or book I find during the sidequests cause every little bit of that gives more explanations about the quest in question. I've always been looking for a game with this type of writing and scenarios. Skyrim almost convinced me, but I got pretty bored at one point, a lot of things in the story seemed a bit weird to me as I couldn't understand why I was doing what I was doing.

The only time during TW3 I ever felt not impressed was having to retrieve all the smuggler caches (repetitive and boring). Other than that I can honestly say every single task performed during TW3 was awesome and would match up against the best point of any game.

[–]Paul_cz 3 ポイント4 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Good thing you don't have to retrieve them...in fact all of the points of interest are completely optional. That said CDP fucked up by leaving the map markers for them enabled by default. Or even by including those smuggler caches in the first place.

For me it was the wonky minimap waypoint pathing and horse gameplay. The on-foot movement could have used some improvement as well.

None of that stops me from loving this game though.

Said it right out of my mouth. Best game indeed (my condolences to people who refuse to try it :( )

Reddit noob here, not sure how to flair.

Under thread, you have stuff as "x comments", "save", etc. There is flair too.

Echo all of the thoughts above - the attention to detail by CDPR has made for an unforgettable and wholly engrossing journey through the Witcher universe. I have to agree with OP, it's my favorite game.

I have been a lifelong fan of open world games. From the GTA series to Skyrim and beyond. It is by far my most favorite genre of games, and I've always felt disconnected from most. Due to large worlds not having enough dynamic content happening.

But TW3, is by far, the absolute BEST open world story driven game I have ever played. Skyrim is great, but the story is not as engaging so you tend to branch off and forget about it. TW3s story is SO enriching and thought provoking, and that is where it stands apart from its peers. The Red Baron quest was so engaging, that I am now preparing to finish in order to go NG+ primarily for that chain once again. I.LOVE.THIS.GAME.
