The year has barely begun and the GOP is already full steam ahead in their mission to make health care access as limited as possible for Americans. Many women foresaw these circumstances and have been scrambling to get new birth control—intrauterine devices (IUDs) specifically—so they can (hopefully) survive Trump’s regime without an unintended pregnancy.
In fact, the fear around losing abortion access is so high that Planned Parenthood’s president Cecile Richards shared that their health centers have seen demand for IUDs rise 900% since Election Day. That’s not a typo. Nine hundred percent.
Astounding. Watch Richards explain on CNN’s Amanpour:
With such an uncertain future in women’s health looming, opting for an IUD makes a lot of sense. Depending on the one used, the IUD lasts between 3 and 10 years and they’re all more than 99% effective.
This is what happens when people see they’re at risk of losing the right to control their own bodies.
