IT didn't have quest markers telling you where to go!

Once upon a time I was surfing the internet and came across an old forum thread somewhere dating back to ~2002-2004 talking about Morrowind and how it sucked compared to Daggerfall. According to their arguments, Morrowind:

  • was dumbed down for consoles and for casual players
  • completely screwed up lore and made up new dumb lore with little depth to appeal to casuals
  • simplified many interesting, intelligent game mechanics
  • made the world feel so much smaller and less vibrant
  • was a sign of the changing times, how games were being streamlined and no longer made with challenge in mind

Sounds familiar?

Sometimes people would counter this by saying something like "but oh Morrowind had a good balance between being for casuals and still being a challenging, interesting world." Now look I love Morrowind too, but I think each TES game has it's good and bad points, and each did something well the others didn't - that includes Oblivion, the most "generci", which I think had the best side quests in the series, and had the most profound theme - that of the darkness and madness lurking behind the peaceful, pastoral face of normalcy we all present - that was everywhere in the game, from the main quests to every side quest and little nook and crany. But anyways, I digress.
